How to deal with a swarm that makes a home in stored equipment

  • Hello Everyone,
I noticed the other day, during the spate of lovely weather, that some bees were flying in and out of some boxes I had put aside at my mating apiary.
Stupidly, I lifted the crownboard, without a bee suit on, and got a face full of bees...
I was rather annoyed about this, not just because butt-daggers were a very likely possibility at that moment, but because this swarm had scuppered my plans for the following weekend...
I usually try to ensure my spare boxes are sealed from swarms just because the last thing I want when doing my inspections is an unknown variable in the apiary that could literally mean death to the other colonies should the swarm have some disease.
It's always important when doing any checks with swarms that you sterilise and clean all equipment you touch the bees with. I'm typing this now as I listen to my washing machine spinning full of soda crystals and bee suits.
Give the video a watch and maybe think about subscribing to the channel. I'm sorry the mic conked out. I've ordered a new one so we shouldn't have this issue again... I hope.
    Hope you're safe and well!
    Greg
