Just picked up the Tale of Two Islands today. It is quite tasty. You definitely get the influence from the rum. Don't be scared of the peat. It's hardly detectable. I don't really get it at all on the nose and only just a faint whisper on the palette. As someone that enjoys peated Scotch, I was actually hoping for more peat influence. Still, though, this is a very enjoyable pour of whiskey.

Had a chance to grab one a few weeks ago but passed on it and got a Castle & Key bottle instead. Only because it’s the first time I’ve came across a bottle of C&K. Next time I see one I’m getting it.
The only amburana finish I’ve been able to find so far is RD1 and I absolutely loved it. Really want to try the Barrell Amburana as well! Hopefully I’ll see it around here someday.
Sounds good. Great review as always. I’ve enjoyed Barrell products over the years with Seagrass and Dovetail being my favorites, esp if I’m looking for something with a little different profile. I’ll keep my eyes open for these 2.

I have been intrigued by both of these releases but haven't seen either. I have had good luck with everything so far from Barrell though. I will keep each one on my radar. Thanks for your thoughts, Judge!
Great reviews! I bought both of these bottles at Kentucky Bourbon Fest after trying each one. I agree - amburana can be overwhelming, but not here. And the Tale of two islands was a pleasant surprise. I like peated scotches, but peat finishes on rum and bourbon normally don't work for me. But it's really mild in this case.

Judge since you are talking Barrell, I picked up a Seelbachs exclusive from Barrel recently had a 99% corn 1% malted barley mash bill so its darn near a corn whiskey. Once the bottle opened up a little I am loving it it has a tropical grilled pineapple thing going on. Barrel is great cheers from guitarswhiskeyandgolf

Tale of two cities sounds really interesting to me. The amburana, meh…..we wait to try before I buy, just because of past opinions of amburana finishes. I bought a couple Opus X cigars and was gonna crack my birthday bourbon, Thomas Handy if the Phils won NLCS, World Series, now I need another occasion 😭😭😭. Always next year, Cheers Judge.
