Buying a (second hand) bicycle is allways cheaper then renting one for weeks. First thing I did when visiting San Diego was to buy a cheap Chinese mountainbike. I had so much fun! Left the bike unlocked with a small note when I left. Hope someone else is having fun with it now :)

We were going to do the same, ended up selling it back to the shop though for I think 30 euro, but it was a cheap rental for sure.

In retrospect I should have brought my own. It would have only cost me about $100 CAD

@@radiofreeurbanism Or you know buy a Brompton, the suitcase for it, pay for the more expensive plane ticket with checked bags, and then it's basically free ;)

It is indeed a bike path. It is just that if there isn't a place for pedestrians (like a sidewalk), they are allowed on the bike path as well. You are supposed to walk on the side of the bike path. Either side is allowed (And there is no longer a recommendation to walk on the left side, as there used to be in the past.)

I have only seen photos from the book, but I really need to order it. 😊

In the 80-ies I crossed the Firth of Forth over the Forth Road Bridge. We had to drive along a road with car that went over 100 km/h to get to the bridge. We were confined to a brick wide track along the road. We had to climb stairs to continue at certain point. Very uncomfortable when bike packing. It was horror. If I now look at Wikipedia, cars are not allowed any more. It is the domain of public transport, pedestrians and bikes. Amazing.

they built a new road bridge to the west, pretty sure with proper bike path, as I believe this old one couldn't take the loading anymore. Somehow still safe for lighter loads...

@31:30 the speed bumps are designed for the speed of the road, so if its a 60km/h road you can drive 60km/h over the speed bump.

      Not always true.
There are ample speed bumps where you have to reduce speed far below the posted/allowed maximum speed.
There are speed/bumps in 60 km roads that you can not pass safely and comfortably with more than 30-40 km/h

@@platinaatje6134It is really designed like that, only it is poorly executed by the road construction company. By accident or deliberate, who knows.

      @@RealConstructor Not true.
Your first statement is no where described in the regulations for the construction of speed bumps.
It is more complex than that.
I can cite you the dutch recommendations and regulations.

It requires true skill to cycle through the Netherlands for 24 days and basically avoid all the best parts of the country, especially for cyclists. Impressive!

@@rollinginthecity Absolute musts are the NP (Hoge) Veluwe (of which you did a bit tbf), Rijk van Nijmegen, Zuid Limburg, Drenthe and Twente, de Achterhoek, Utrechtse Heuvelrug, NP De Meinweg, NP Maasduinen etc. From the top of my head these were all places you seemed to avoid almost. But hey; all the more reasons to come back, which you already did I understand. Hope you had a pleasant & safe ride. Cheers!

@@laziojohnny79 On the first trip our goal was the larger cities, I design urban infrastructure and that's the intent of the trip for the most part, but we've for sure ticked off more of the country since, check out the blogs ;) Only bit I feel like we've not done is the very south west.

    • @laziojohnny79
      @laziojohnny79 20 днів тому +1

@@rollinginthecity Well that makes sense, but I only seen this particular one tbf and was thus surprised you managed to cycle exactly in between the best parts, except for said Veluwe. The South West is a very cycle-minded part of the country (evemore so than the rest already is) and many of our best pro-cyclists came from that region, which even has som elevation, dare I say hills even. I'll fror sure check out the other vlogs of your Dutch tours. Cheers!
