Ulka, this was hilarious! ...I have a serious question though. Is there a way to run postgres scripts in the background- that is, starting a postgre script logging out, and having the postgre script continue running data management processes for hours (or potentially months on end)? I know how to do this with Unix/Linux shell scripts and raw data (i.e. without a database), but I was wondering if there was a way to do this inside of postgres (or any SQL database).
"engineers get double respect points when typing in commands vs using GUI" That is compleeeeeetely accurate and ofc goes for everything, firewalls, switches, etc..
It has been 2 minutes so far and I can already state that this is by far the best short educational video I have ever watched. So tasteful, clever and with an excellent sense of humour. THANK YOU!!!
"I always include a similar warning in my CV." That comment just made my day! Wonderfully crazy and quirky! Thank you for putting this material out and making it a joy to learn from!
Great video, very informative and great humor. I very much enjoy the presenters delivery style. New quote for me.." you should not fear change.. unless the change is scary, then you should be terrified."
For someone like me who works as a System Admin/Database Administrator for 8-9 hours per day I really didn't think it was possible for me to effectively learn coding without burnout. Your videos have helped me become super interested in code versus watching painstakingly boring courses everyday. I wish all courses were like this it would be beneficial for people who have a hard time sitting down and reading through hours of material and videos. Maybe you can make a Kubernetes/Docker course in the future??
Love this series! I'm learning all the things. No more blank looks from me when I mentioned needing help with a SQL database and they tell me, "It's not SQL, it's postgres..." 👍😉
You told a story, you took me through a journey. Thank you, Socratica. You just gained a subscriber in me for this special and impactful content. Obrigado!
Sir, I'm a business intelligence developer (Tableau) I use SQL to get data from data source to visualise on Tableau desktop. I wanna learn postgresql, how will it help me in long-run?
I came here when searching a tutorial on PostgreSQL and found your video is valuable, informative and was totally in a different way of style to present. Liked and subscribed. Thank You!!!
Hi ! :) I like your style of teaching. This is your originality. And it helps lessen the boredom of a programming job. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Absolutely love this! I stumbled upon it while trying to introduce myself to PostgreSQL for a work assignment. I never knew Database Comedy was a "thing"! I'm going to watch all your other database vids too - databases are fun :-)
Fantastic videos. I have never seen such a funny and charismatic IT video. Make such a nice change from mumbling incomprehensible Indian bloke. Don't get me wrong I appreciate them helping me learn. This however is brilliant. Thanks!
PostgreSQL is something that I'm not interested in. But your tutorials are always so well done. I had to watch it and I loved it :D My favorites are those about Python. Not sure how you do it, but keep doing it!
I have never enjoyed a installation video as much as this one! Perfect way to keep us tuned. Before this video I didn't even knew what postgres is, thanks a lot!
You guys are doing such an amazing job with this... decided to go through some videos as a refresher, I could see a lot of different people being engaged here.
I am enjoying her humour and her funny insights like "pretty good" admin and elephant logo since "an elephant never forgets". I think every tutor should have humour like her. :)

py + postgre pls
Literally found myself giving you a round of applause after watching the video. LOVE the humor!
I'm not even using postgres, I'm here for the dry humor
me too :)
Wow
It never disappoints.
My4DGlasses same
Me too! I was searching for the correct way to pronounce the word and ended up staying through the entire installation! lol
"engineers get double respect points when typing in commands vs using GUI"
That is compleeeeeetely accurate and ofc goes for everything, firewalls, switches, etc..
what you can command line, you can automate, you can scale, you can automate testing, and, with the hair style, you can look cool doing it all
This was intense. I've never felt so much suspense while installing something.
The worst part: I had to stop watching the video in order to download and install things, and then be synced with the video :')
oh yes, after installing then you would find out that there're not chairs in your database
Then, you never installed Oracle on a Sun Solaris server!! 😆
It has been 2 minutes so far and I can already state that this is by far the best short educational video I have ever watched. So tasteful, clever and with an excellent sense of humour. THANK YOU!!!
A standing ovation for this woman. Breaking down concepts and delivery is top notch.
I see an elephant, so we must be at the right place 😂😂😂
This is such a nice unexpected change of pace from the hundred other painfully dry SQL tutorials I have been making my way though! Thank you!
How have I never heard of this channel?
Laughing and learning is such a powerful combination, thanks!
we have no tables, and no chairs either!! lol
the puns are more like dad jokes, but still I found this channel and her way of teaching amazing!!
The amount of puns in this video is... just right
I'm sorry, this comment had 69 likes, i turned into 70 likes.

you don't wanna know what "puns" means in portuguese...

We loved this video. We especially loved the dig about using the gui when nobody's looking.
I love this lady. She has such dry humor and presents it as nothing more than that.
God i am hooked to the sarcrasm and unexpected comments by the AI on the video, very human like
@Shovine Bojraj it's just a very good AI ^-^
AI? Really going there? No, she is Ulka Simone Mohanty and is very real and quite lovely.
@@physicsguybrian Nice, She's too real and good to be AI :)
Im really hoping everyone knows this woooosh.
This is what all tech explanation videos should be like.
never loved a tutorial more .... it was just WOW .. felt like i was watching a episode from my beloved series or something
Who else is addicted to listening to Ulka?

Happy for you! Indeed it's difficult to learn new things when you already have a full time job
The first thing that I do after starting a Socratica video with Ulka in it is to hit the like button because I'm pretty sure I will like it already.
Love this series! I'm learning all the things. No more blank looks from me when I mentioned needing help with a SQL database and they tell me, "It's not SQL, it's postgres..." 👍😉

I've been using PostgreSQL at a professional level for twenty years and I can assert that this video was interesting.

8:32 Manuel here.
Thank you for the video! I thought it was a joke, but it's really useful for my Databases class assignment!
glad I have found a postgresql video which feels like a cult initiation, thanks
One difference between mysql and postgres is the underlying storage engine. PostgreSql uses MVCC similar to Oracle. Only a few RDBMS use MVCC design.
Love your humor. Well done. Thank you!
Simple and straightforward to the point this is amazing way of teaching i really impressed. Will definitely support #SupportSocratica.
I kind of love this tutorial. Informative and sarcastic without being condescending. Cool shit.
I'm fascinating with this. In fact this is the greatest installation short video I'll ever watch.
