On line 4, the phrase "Half sunk" could mean that Ozymandias was corrupt at some point which could possibly relate to how Shelley thought of the English monarchy. I knows it's not great but this was my idea. Thanks for the analysis.
legend >:)!! i hope none of the kids from my school see this lol, but we all talk about you in english and how good your videos are! i'm in set one and your analysis is a godsend to me cause i've gotten some really good marks on my essays! thanks dude :D
Chris, this comment makes all the hard work and effort worth it - thank you so much! Shout out to you (and your classmates), and good luck with the rest of your studies 😊
Thank you so much for your kind words - I'm glad they're helping you! Please do share with your friends, classmates, etc, so I can help even more people! 😁😁😁
I've loved this poem for more years than I care to recall and, whilst I readily understood the central, cautionary tone of the poem, your analysis has added a richness previously hidden to me, so thank you. And it turns out that Ozymandias was also Ramses II, who knew? I'll bet that neither Marion Morrison or Archie Leach did! I'm off to Part II without delay. On a more serious note, I do hope that your efforts in these videos engender a love for poetry in your viewers and not just a greater chance of exam success. The latter is important but the former is genuinely life enhancing.
I had to search who Marion Morrison and Archie Leach were - and I'm glad I did, as your joke was brilliant! 😁 I too hope that my videos engender a love for poetry in my viewers. Sadly the government seem to prioritise analysis over enjoyment, and so many young people have a negative view of poetry. If I can do a tiny bit to rectify that, I'll be thrilled!
@@DystopiaJunkie Marion and Archie were carefully chosen for their semi-obscurity so I'm glad that you enjoyed the joke! As for inculcating a love of poetry by your work; it's a long game you're playing and I'm sure that you are having a greater effect than you know. You'll probably have to wait until your pupils reach maturity and have some life experience behind them, but I sincerely hope that at least a few of them say (even if it is to an empty sky) "D'ya know what sir, you were right". In the mid 1960's (yes, I know!) I had an inspirational teacher, "Molly" Morton, between ages 9 and 10 and he sowed in me a love of lyrical language through "The Wind in the Willows" that led on, via Penguin's "The Mersey Sound" to a lifetime of pleasure and insight from poetry. I'm sure you're doing the same. Just believe.
I didn’t understand poems one bit but now I have a thorough understanding of it and that’s because of your carefully detailed explanation so Thank You and I hope you get recognised for your work
Thank you so much for your lovely comment - you can always help me with getting more recognition by sharing my videos with your friends (and even your teacher)! 😁
The question is asking you to explain the immortality of artists' works in Ozymandias. Could you write about how the poem is still read today, how the statue of Ozymandias still exists (sort of!) in the poem, or even how all of God's creation have survived?
Um hello, this was an amazing video and you are so saving my English literature gcse... An analysis I wasn't sure was okay or not but but the phrase "sneer cold command" could show that ozymandias requires no effort (as he doesn't even speak) to command his people and be in a position of authority which How's how much his people fear him and how ruthless he is???? Thank you sooooo much wish you every subscriber! I also recommend you to my English teacher and she was impressed as well!!
Hello! Yep, I think that's a great piece of analysis 😊 You could add to it further and say that he thinks he is above his subjects because he doesn't even speak to them, meaning he is ruthless AND arrogant! Thanks for the kind words and for sharing my work with your teacher! Good luck with the rest of your studies!! 😁
Thank you for the video, it was very helpful! At 9:55 could you interpret the distance between Ozymandias and the reader as showing the power that Ozymandias had and that he was far richer, greater and more powerful than the average person in Egypt at the time and that no one else came close. Thanks again!
Make sure you watch the second part of my analysis of this poem! ua-cam.com/video/_qcvvt2aIyY/v-deo.html

Percy Bysshe Shelley's "Ozymandias" the work of the artist is presented as

I won't be able to, I'm afraid. The channel 'Oxford Comma' here on UA-cam seems to have a decent video on it, though!
