I am Rebecca and was told i had to read this book for english class but there where just too many long boaring details at the begining the show helped me understand it more so thanks
Yes, indeed, he did leave Anna Massey for a man. OMG, to have her play Mrs. Danvers in this movie with him! She looks very evil,, a real Ice Queen! I bet she is perfect for the part. Nothing like having your ex work with you. Oh well, they had a son together so maybe they stayed on good terms.
I'm pretty sure that Brett broke it off with her because he preferred men... He became civil partners with Gary Bond pretty soon after that, and I think Anna Massey once said "he left me for a man."
The man in question is from Switzerland, weather he came to England or he went to Switzerland we don’t know, unnamed, but it’s in his bio on Wikipedia, she said that because she was angry. The other man in his life was Paul Shenar in the late 70s, even when he and Gary broke up they remained friends.
i remember when this respectable remake was broadcast in the seventies. It was compared unfavorably to the hitchcock film, lacking the earlier versions - hollywood- glamour, but now you can see that this was the intention of the films makers. but it's really in the casting that this suffers - olivier, fontaine and anderson simply too classy and cant be beat.
Fontaine was too classy (miscast in Rebecca and miscast in Jane Eyre), and Olivier downplayed Maxim's character flaws to the point he was not Maxim from the book. So while Hitchcock's Rebecca is a better movie it's not a better adaptation.
Beautiful Caerhays Castle a perfect setting for Mandalay.
OMG Mrs. Danvers...she's bone-chilling with just that one look.
the way Mrs. Danvers looks at the girl she is probably thinking "this little snippet will never be my Mrs. de winter!"
priestessmikokikyo77 and it's true! 😨
Ahhhh, the infamous Mrs Danvers
The housekeeper just turns around and you can hear fingernails on a chalkboard.
The actress who plays Mrs Danvers was Anna Massey. She and Jeremy Brett were married!
She was an excellent actress, R.I.P.
Crazy dynamics
At the time this aired, they were already divorced
''Who are all these people?'' She IS far from everything she's known
I like this version of Rebecca (seen 3) but Judith Anderson's Mrs. Danvers rules all
Wow that's some driveway :))
The beautiful Caerhays Castle in Cornwall. The gardens are still as beautiful today as when they filmed there. A magical setting.

Mrs. Danvers (Anna Massey) was married to Jeremy Brett. She left him, and he was devastated. So, I guess it is not all about looks..
He was the one who left
