    The QM2 is the most brilliant ship on the seas. She certainly outdoes the oversized, overpacked shoeboxes of RCCL. She offers more space and more luxury for the money spent. I have some criticisms, however. 1) The Canyon Ranch Spa, outsourced to that company. It's employees would often discriminate against passengers who weren't, shall we say, "young and beautiful." I and several other passengers made complaints both with Cunard and the CRS onboard manager and backed it up. Several CRS employees were fired. Hopefully, things have changed. 2) Room service food. It's just a few items repeated over and over again, breakfast, lunch and dinner. One can only eat so many hamburgers. Hopefully, that has changed. 3) Now charging for optional dinner dining in the King's Court. Before, one just needed to make a reservation. There is no reason to make an extra charge. Hopefully, they will change that.

    I did have a laugh at some of the comments like "floating retirement home," but let's keep in mind the QM2 is an ocean liner not a cruise ship. I will admit it looks a bit stuffy, but it is not meant to be a RCL or Carnival experience.

    Phone service may be available, but you may be surprised with a large bill for roaming or international, depending on your carrier, so it's best to leave your phone on airplane mode while in international waters or foreign ports. Just pay for WIFI if you need to contact anyone at home while traveling abroad.

      Femme Funtime It was Millenium. They removed it in 2015 and turned the decent interior otherwise into ugly modern art. Only one of the ocean liner themed restaurants was readded to a ship, being the Normandie restaurant, which was added to Edge, and apparently Apex for some reason. Why they haven’t added Olympic’s back in is beyond me.if they’re not going to put it back put it in a museum as the panelling they used was from the original restaurant from the ship.
      I don’t get why out of all the ones they removed (Normandie, Olympic, United States, Île de France, etc.) they chose Normandie twice. Astonishing as out of all of them Olympic’s proved to be the most popular. For me, Normandie’s is too plain for my liking, not exactly deserving on being added TWICE.

    It’s odd. Everyone wants to travel to see the world, but as they travel they turn a blind eye to world of the hungry, thirsty, sick, and extremely poor - of this very same world. Then, are they really SEEING the world? One has to ask.
    I love this ship. It calls to me. But, i do not think I could actually feel good about spoiling myself with such luxury when others are literally dying as I sip champagne. Maybe there is a Cunard in heaven when I am done with this parallel life on earth of heaven and hell.

    Wi-fi in limited areas of the ship? C'mon Cunard. The ship is traveling at under 30 knots. If planes can have Wi-Fi while travelling at 35,000 feet at 500 mph, then shipwide wi-fi should be a breeze.

    • @Inpri
      @Inpri 9 років тому +8

      Joseph Forest If you want the "wow" factor of climbing rock walls and skating on ice-rinks and all that (and there's nothing wrong with wanting that), then go with RCCL and its overpriced shoeboxes with closet-sized cabins. Cunard clearly advertises itself as the "civilized" way to sail. If you want loud noises and drunken parties, then go with RCCL and Carnival. "Fun" is in the eye and activity of the passenger. Some want to sit back and read a book while being waited on hand-and-foot. Others want to be spun around on "rides." I loved the QM2; I was bored out of my mind on one of RCCL's "Explosions-of-the-Seas."

    • @gdcat777
      @gdcat777 9 років тому +3

      +Joseph Forest Ocean Liners have always had fun activities, and no QM2 is not a cruise ship but can function as one. She is built for the North Atlantic and has definite structural features for that purpose, which includes speed.

I cant call the thing a liner cos I inspected the hull to see why it doesn't like going slow and I was appalled at the rough inconsistent welding and the mismatching of the hull shape where the stern end has been crudely grafted on to make the thing look like QE2 . It is an abortion.

  • @jonathanpardoe8722

    I wasn't impressed with this ship one bit . right from the onset of setting my first footsteps on the thing, it was a let down. where we fully expected to be greeted and shown to our cabin, we were hurredly shuffled away to find our own way on a ship that was devoid of signposts . having to carry our luggage as well and then not even a bottle of champagne in the cabin. I understand the foul Kings court café has now been rebuilt but at the time it was awful smelly cramped and staffed by the surliest of staff possible . I just about managed to write a letter of complaint to the pursers office asking why the thing was so uncomfortable in the water rolling and pitching everywhere in a force 4 !! Had this been my first time cruising , I might not have complained but since I was a regular passenger on QE2 and this thing was sold to me as much better bigger and more sumptuous I was understandably disgruntled, nay, bloody annoyed. Cruising is all about relaxation and on this pile of poop, it is all about frustration. However all is not lost, and my hopes are raised that QE2 will return someday soon as the renovation work is totally in the right direction for the ship to take its place as the flagship of the cruise world once again.

      Nope, Ocean liners are not cruise ships. This is why cruise ships will usually take the south Atlantic route as they are not built to handle rough seas properly starting with the flatter bottoms. Read about the construction of QM2, thicker hull and far more stability, while you would do the drunk walk in a rough storm on a cruise ship, you will barely feel anything on the QM2. As an ocean liner it is also faster, it could actually cross in just 4 days, but typically does it in 7.

  • @josephforest7605
    @josephforest7605 10 років тому +2

    I have travelled on her twice ,transatlantic , the ship is very basic. Facts if you are a senior the ship is fine, if you are not then it is a dull, dull, ship to be on. No watr slide , no mall , no rock climbing etc. If you are single male, the few single ladies onboard are hoarded by the old male ballroom dancers hired by the ship, the single men are left standing as spectators, with all the middle age single ladies in the world you would think Cunard would take them onboard as crew. The casino is a more than usual cash grab, a grand prize of $400 was being put up , wow what a joke. Many say it is an ocean liner not a cruise ship, so is not suppose to be as fun , as a cruise ship? Good points food 7 out of ten, plenty to eat ,but it is usually the norm on ships.

      Joseph Forest So you sailed - twice - on the QM2 to go down water slides, climb fake rock walls and pick up chicks and could't get any of that? Why didn't you just spend time on one of those monotonous RCCL or Carnival ships? And if you are so much younger and better looking than the older, hired ballroom escorts, then why didn't you just go up and ask those single foxy ladies to dance rather than just stand there as a "spectator?"

      Joseph, you have made nine comments on this page. If I understand you correctly, you were not satisfied with your experience. If you wanted malls, try Holland America. If you wanted water slides, try Disney. If you want rock climbing, try Carnival. If you can't compete with the gigalos, you need to brush up on your charm skills. If you want serious gambling, try Monte Carlo. If you hated it so much the first time, why go a second? As you are a single male, perhaps you should try one of the gay cruises.

      Perhaps you would have gotten yourself a dance partner, if you could have just plucked up the courage to ask one of those single ladies for a dance?? Someone travelling with a traditional liner may still expect certain rules to apply. There the gentleman asks, not vice versa.
