I’ve once had fighter jets pass me and my paraglider left and right. I had taken off a couple of minutes before, towards the inside of a valley, when the pair of Mirage-2000 came out from a perpendicular valley right in front of me, at low speed, they climbed the slope above which I was, the separation was maybe a couple hundred yards between me and each of them. Grandiose.
I had two fighters blow past me by a couple hundred feet not too far from launch at Bishop in the Owens Valley. Scared the bejesus out of me. Of course they were past me before I heard them and even realized they were there.
@Yuck Foutube That can see a kite? Or do hang gliders have a big enough signature to be detected? (or do they carry those metal diamonds that sailboats have to be seen on radar?)
I’ve had small aircraft fly close enough to be able to identify the pilot and I can tell you he was oblivious despite my high bank turns to flash my colours. I’d class this as an encounter because those jets could be in my airspace in a blink of an eye. I doubt any of you guys dissing the title are actually hang glider pilots and if you are you should know better.
Since it is a mountaun pass, high elevation, snow and all that, it is not flyable until late summer/fall. Snow has to melt off of the road up to launch, which is at a higher elevation than the ski areas. By the time the snows have melted enough to allow 4x4s to climb the dirt road to launch, the lake is down enough to expose landing areas. Of course, a person could always land on the service road or somewhere else...

Isn't it dangerous? Is there a method that you can ask for a notam or can you submit flight plan?
Saw 2 military jets fly at eye level of our 2nd floor hotel room down Loch Ness this year. Pretty cool.
jets were a mile off ive had them fly under me 200 foot below at carlton bank and the Yorkshire dales
Yooo were loooky.
Aye........
Oh THIS is what I've been looking for! I wanted a video to make me feel like I was flying, without seeing the flyer or the gear!
stunning scenery ,,, nice to look down on jets
Did Robin ever catch up with the fighter jet?
yes

What precautions do you take to avoid getting hit by them ?

What you trying to say dude? The jets were well clear of you. Looks to me they were deliberately staying clear of the site.
Very cool video. What does "sky out" 0:24 mean?
They got higher than everybody else that day
You can't see them from launch

The word "Encounter " incorrectly used to incite Click baiting .
Encounter?! I think I have a different definition of the word my friend...
he also encountered B52 bomber jets that were probably flying on the other side of the planet
Don't anybody ever smart off to Rick skater
How about "Bug on the Windshield?"

beautiful flight.
No paragliders cuz "strong north winds blowing about 15-25mph" paragliders can't "HANG" with that ;)
It was blowing 0-5mph light winds that day.
Super location nd nice fly!
Where is the LZ when the lake is full?

Very cool, where is this site?

This video is awesome.
I hear a vario . . . Thanks for sharing and watch your six, don't want to caught in the jet wake, might make for an unwanted wake. . . . ;>)
What a view 👍🏻

Belle vue...
Better better known as unskunkable
Imagine if that guy from the bible actually made a hang glider Nd flew to close to the sun ? Lol
? Which guy?
You mean icarus
You are putting in danger a public 100Million Euro object with your reckless behaviour and endanger the sport!
it's well known they practice there and pilots are aware.
