I have a early 90's Samick SG that I'm going to throw a nut extension on. It sounds nice and dirty in open D as it is and I think it will work perfectly for this. Thanks!
Well done, but for proper grounding you don't only need to keep the springs claw in the trem cavity, the trem block must be kept electrically connected to the springs claw or else the bridge (anche the strings) won't be grounded anymore. And that could prove dangerous in certain circumstances. If you're not installing trem springs anymore, then you need to solder a short lead from the trem block to the springs claw

There is a ground to the trem claw

Do you use regular tuning or alternate?
I have it tuned to Em at the moment. These guitars are better with alternate tunings imho
