Hi John. What you are saying is so true. Mine had the toilet flusher caps on the phone jacks. But the knobs were all Bristol spline key set screws. I already had the Bristols for my Angry 9, GRC-9. My first BC-348 was a Q model that was trashed, he had cluged a 12 volt multivibrator supply and led lights. I did like you and watched the junk coming out of the wood works , like roaches. I spied a good looking BC-348, an N model. Had the shock mount and the Jones plug. Whoosh, it was mine. Ran good for 2 years. Quit about 3 months ago. Getting my test equipment together, so I can delve into its pain. AN 08-10-112, Maintenance Instructions 17 July 1943, Fig. 32 Says to jumper 2 and 6 at the plug, wire side of cable. Not the jack, inside. You were right, my friend.
First 348 I got off ebay. It was repainted (olive drab) and had the dynamotor... I probably paid a bunch for it.... Its still in the box, ok John LOL at me, I'm one if those. Second one I got at a Ham Swap. I showed interest and talked to the seller. But no takers... The seller brought it to my table on his way out and took whatever I offered. Last one I got from another ham swap. This one looked un-modified with dynamotor and the mounting rack. Two wires attached for 28 volts and two for tx mute... 80 bucks. If ya want a 348 or any other boat anchor be patient and goto the ham swaps. Hams are getting older and are cleaning house or becoming SK's and their estates are being liquidated for crazy prices. The landfills will be teeming with these radios cuz the younger hams are not nostalgic about them. They're big'n'heavy and unwanted. The last hamfest, a small one, last October (2023) that I attended had a bunch of boat anchors.... most went home with the seller! Check the garbage cans and dumpsters at these events... Ya never know what you'll find. 73, Mike.

great info thanks. It does make a person very good at minutia of pictures & another big aspect, packing.
Great information. The eBay ones sure look picked over.
"Tramsistorize your BC 348" in youtube is sad. Why would someone do that? To give Mona Lisa a fresh look with spray paint?
