Pessimism reigns here and that makes sense (at least I hear pessimism). You can't accuse Ani of being unoriginal. The song is not meant to be pretty because these are not pretty times. Interesting little ditty with a jarring sound. Ani is an artist to her toes, no doubt.
Very true words. did not seem like a great or enjoyable tune to listen to on my first few listens of this new album. but throughout all these 25years I have always loved ani for her originality, artistry and poetry... along with everything else. I know this one will grow on me, along with the entire record, because there is not a single thing she (you, ani) have released that hasn't. and often they have taken time.. time to get in under my skin and into my heart and very fibre I guess
I've first heard Ani when she was opening act for Bob Dylan in 1997. She was so fresh, original and full of energy comparing to Bob who already looked and sounded like a pensioner then. Fast forward to 2020s - Dylan's voice and lyrics are still great.
