- In this video, I explain how to develop an advanced forehand topspin stroke. I take you through five key stages - contact point, waist rotation, power from the legs, ball placement and spin variation. When you have progressed through the five stages you will have a very effective attacking weapon.

Thanks so much, Tom. You've just opened a new horizon for me to pay close attention to small details to make progress.
Thank you for this great video. That's the best explanation how to train top spins I ever seen. I'm stuck at the stage 3, now I know what to do and how to move forward.
Consejos sencillos pero necesarios. Gracias señor lodziak
Great video Tom.
Thank you very much from Italy!
Great video. Forehand topspin is stroke I struggle the most in my play. If I could get it right, I would improve A LOT.
You'll find out that your footwork needs improvement to use topspins in real matches 😅
Next VGJ!!!! Thx Man
Wonderful step by step explanation, Tom. Can´t wait to do this with you! Are you planing to go to Grünwettersbach this year, Tom? Greetings Hubert
Very good video 🙂.
I would love a just as thorough video for backhack. My backhand is terrible 😅.
great! tks so much
Thanks
So a loop is the same topspin shot, but with a little more back swing with the follow through higher?? I know you have a separate video(s) on this, I'm just trying to differentiate the shots in my head. As usual, great video!
Hi Tom. Nice video as always. Where did you get this spin tool from? Is it good and you would recommend it? Thanks a lot
Here is a link to the spin trainer I use in the video: bribartt.co.uk/product/tibhar-table-tennis-spin-trainer/?ref=8204 ... I use it in coaching sessions some times. A useful way for a play to focus on how to contact the ball to generate spin.
Tom: Brushing the ball to get top spin: When you do it with the aid device your bat is almost parallel to the direction of ball travel so that it "brushes" the ball, effectively slicing at it. However, when you're using the ball machine and hit the balls I can hear a clunk sound indicating a much flatter bat position. I can not make contact with the ball if I slice at it at say a 5 degree angle, i.e. almost parallel to path of ball. How can you 'brush' the ball when it's whizzing past you so fast?
Which part of paddle the contact point? Middle or edge?
🔥
i'm learning to do spins but not getting anyway yet 😖 i have limited movement can you advise how I can learn?
stage 6 : try against back spin :D
also, Tom, nowhere in here do you talk about arm articulation. I would think that arm (and wrist) articulation would play a role in generating high end topspin on a forehand. no? the other question i had is...a coach that watched me said not only do i need to use my legs w/ torso rotation...but i need to focus on acceleration just before contact for maximum topspin (vs a constant speed swing begin to end).
Watching videos like this. Only way I get ANY coaching on how to play
in these stages, you're not leaning forward much. how much leaning forward is ideal? you seem quite upright in the video. thanks! :)
This is not a professional technique thou and an oldschool very big armswing, not an ideal example.
In modern fast table tennis u learn to impact power with much much shorter compact strokes so u are ready again fast enough to play the next ball with high quality again as well
Have you seen ma longs forehand?
way too much back arm. the chinese wouldn’t be happy with you
The Chinese wouldn't be happy with almost all aspects of my technique!
Leave "chinese" to PingSunday. Shortening strokes is a next step
But you do great videos for learning tabletennis! Go on, Tom!@@TomLodziak
@@TomLodziak Thank you for the amazing video! To me, your forehand looks much improved compared to a few years ago. Congratulations on the progress!
well if you can achieve making the arm in the same position by just turning your waist/torso it would be much better@@TomLodziak
