- Did I make a mistake selling my Traxxas TRX4 and not my $800 FTX (total cost with upgrades)? I don't think so, this FTX Tracker is not only a really nice scale looking Land Cruiser LC76, but it's a very good RC Crawler. And now even better with all the upgrades! (but expensive now as well!)

@@TomleyRC wouldnt it have been more interesting to have kept the TRX4 and compared the 2 back to back? Maybe still possible with the TRX4 Sport
I bought the Sport. I don't really see a big difference. More weight from the servos, more to go wrong. Some people recommend the Sport for the weight alone. Up to you. The price was my biggest concern for what you get.
Didn’t he have a copyright issue with traxxas or something? I’d have burnt the traxxas with how petty they were.
traxxas is overpriced crap, see so many of them break when out in groups

@@ValleyRC the scx6 is that £1000 one right? I didn't know it had stickers but I would be disappointed if I bought that and saw that
Also consider the Absima Sherpa cr3.4. Great truck for the money it also has portal axles, two speed transmission, locking front and rear diffs and an awesome light kit 😎 ( also sold as Rebel RC Rebelcon and Yikong YK4102)
i just bought a TRX4 Defender, really stoked on this thing can't wait to get it out today. my last 10 scale crawler was an axial scx10ii so this is a HUGE upgrade

Also fitted some proline toyo tires, slightly smaller but grip so well .

I like this FTX! Looks like a fairly decent copy of the TRX-4. I would add one to my collection of TRX-4s, where I think it would find a place just like the Axial Capra did.. :)
When the bonnet latch breaks off, drill out the base of it, fit a small hex bolt with a washer atop, so you just turn the bolt 45 deg' to open the hood.
I also took to the hood hinges with a gas torch, stretched them so the hood can open further, only to find the rear of the hood hits the body & stops it. Still, fitted a charge cord extension so now just open the hood to recharge!
The first crawler & basher - lo and behold: the crasher 😁👍

Seeing the crawlers on the wooden angle tool would be neat.
Ive had a texan an honestly low down weight and a fusion/axe system completely changed it, it was a beast! My point being, hobbywings foc systems and a low cg can really transform a crawler 😁🤘

I don't think you could go wrong either way with the looks of the FTX. Sure the TRX4 is the more popular of the two, but popular doesn't always equal better. Good on you for showing the capabilities of the FTX although at $800, it should perform well ;-) .
it's not a honest comparation as you get two trx4 with price of one ftx. it should be compared with 400$ trx + 400$ upgrades to this ftx out of the box 800$.
I love my ftx crawler. I've a modded outback texan 1/10, stretched wb and removed the rear canti suspension. It's my go-to, over my capra these days
I'm not a big crawler fan but that is pretty dang impressive 😳

TrX4 is the keeper, not an FTX. It's a good rig, but TRX4 is the original and best with amazing aftermarket support. I think you'd have been better off with a Defender body like mine has as you'd likely feel more emotionally connected to it. Still, nice to see different ideas tried & yes I'm a subscriber :)

I recently sold my TRX4 and bought the Traction Hobby Cragsman C F150 1/8 scale crawler. It has selectable 2wd & 4wd lockable front and rear diffs, 2-speed transmission. It's freaking awesome. Well worth the 1k price tag. If you haven't seen one you need to check it out, Phil. I think you would fall in love. Doesnt has portals but it doesn't need them because of the tall tires and the inverted diffs. Plenty of clearance. It comes with brass in all the right places. Maybe you can get them to send you one for review? I hope to see more 1/8 scale crawlers. They just perform so well cause of the size. BTW your new rig looks freaking amazing!
Indeed, China brand crawlers is getting so much feature for value. I got my YiKong 4082 1/8 scale and loving it, they just released YK4083 Bronco 1/8 and looking great!
I have been looking at them for a couple of years now. I think I might have to get one next year 👌

It’s a stunner as they come ,but even more so now! Looks like it’s on par with the Traxxas to me! Love that classic LC look too!

I havnt even finished the video yet and I am going to tell you right now you are not going to like the metal skid plates you put on. Those plates are going to get hung up on everything you try to climb over plus metal doesnt slide as easily as plastic. I would also like to say thank you for being an honest nonbiased youtuber, not being a traxxas fan boy lets me know you`re not a mindless toad wo was brainwashed by the hype of the traxxas vehicles. Dont get me wrong like you I know a great rig when i see one and the trx4 line of rigs are pretty awesome and you can not take that away from them, but there lots of other vehicles out there that can compare or even beat the trx4 so it is not the greatest rig anymore so thank you for showing that by selling your trx4 and getting this FTX.

I got the sport lime 2 or 3y ago and only broke the servo horn🤣and that happend when i give it to my neighbor 7years old son. In like 5min was the servo horn done.
Modelsport have these for £359 on sale at the moment. I wish I could afford one!

The trx4 sport is an awesome platform, you don’t need any more than that
On paper, I was excited for the new broncos. Then they came out, and I see them, and I'm not a fan. This old toyota is ridiculous, after some nice, standard mods. This rig really allows you to do whatever you want with it, and thems my favorite kind!

you cant compare the LC76 looks to traxxas as the old school wins hands down for me and i love my TRX4's as yes i have 2 the Bronco and the Defender but then again i love the look of the Redcat Gen 8 too , must be the scale look of the older stuff thats more appealing will definately be looking at getting a FTX now i know that its as capable as all that Phil, thanks for the review , Cheerio 🙂
Tomley, you're the best RC'ing Brit out there. Keep on the good work. Speaking of FTX's (or RTG's), I have the RGT Jimny, did you ever consider getting it ? With some mods, it becomes REALLY good both on the rocks and trails... May be you already reviewed it and I missed it...

I have the RGT version of the Jimny and it's amazing for 200 bucks, makes me want the little Bronco they have too, but I think I need the TRX4M next!

After I'd sold my 21 bronco, I regretted it and eventually bought another one in silver. I missed it too much.
I used the 2800kv Axe just of the pinion shaft size, it ended being Plenty of power. I am curious 🤔 tho....
what interior did you use?
I’ve had my eye on this for a while. My only criticism is that it’s got no scale interior.
I installed the Hobbywing Fusion in my FTX Geo. The motor is very quiet but the gears are noisy. But only at higher speeds. I prefer the really slow crawling anyway. The FTX Geo is almost as good as my TRX4. The only downside is no portal axles.
Yes, the GEO is such a nice truck. I must get mine out again!
Hi Tom - I bought a RGT ex86190 and this unit is not moving in reverse throttle.. Could you please let me know what could be the issue? Additionally, with little/ full throttle, acceleration is at its peak( only forward)

Hey, what is the interior you're using in the Tracker? Did it come with your truck or did you use something aftermarket? I have the RGT Rescuer, but it did not come with any interior, but it needs one. : (

I've got the truck for some months now. And it's a really good truck. The tires is not super good. So I've changed them out for some TRX4 tires. I hate that the truck making so much noice when it drives.
And I've driven mine about 8 times and my servo to the gear died. They're really weak. And normal micro servos do not fit with the servo saver. So mine has stand still for several months now. 😩

Was going to get a trx 4 but always been a ftx fan boy lol but love my wpl's more as I cycle 🚲 and easy to carry have got a ii but such a pain to go out with lol smaller is better for me xdd
