The rack mounts to a special through axle that Old Man Mountain makes! This way you can carry more weight and not worry about putting weight on the screw which is molded into the carbon
Curious can you be fine without fork eyelets? I'm tempted by Boardman adv 8.9 partly as I want a Boardman bike but also thinking to bike packing in future
Why everyone, that bikepacs always make the most expensive setups. Why not do it on budget. My setup is very simple. On the rear rack I have 80 liter backpack and on my frame I attach two shoulder bags(each around 25 liters). I attach them by putting the shoulder strip around seat post and a special ring I made on my steering tube. They lie next to frame and no, they don't make it hard to peddle for me(btw I'm huge 6'3 or 196 cm) And there are two huge pluses for me, why this is the best. Firstly, they are everyday items, so I can use them each day, not only when I cycle. Secondly, I can easily remove them from my bike and go, for example, to shop. I put my backpack on shoulders, one shoulder bag around shoulder and second shoulder bag also funkcions as duffle bag, so I can cary in my hand.
Some people prefer more weight on front vs. back. Basically, trying out various setups. Later in the year I put a rear rack on and had both. Depends on the trip+gear needs.
@@TrentSiggard Awesome, thanks for the reply. I’m just getting into it all and trying to figure out the most preferable setup. Sounds like flexibility is warranted!
@@spork1125rider weight is %70 on the rear already. i was using rear rack and i was putting heavy things to the back because of this i replaced my rear hub 2 times in a 3 year. now i am using front rack.
Hey there. Did you fit a 42t cassette directly without the Goatlink? I also have a GRX 2x, switched the original 11-36 cassette for a 11-42, initially with a Goatlink but it was bending the b-screw so I took it off and it works. Any points, advice or thoughts on the system?
@@TrentSiggard gotcha, thanks. I misheard 40 tooth chainring as 42 :) Yeah, I got the cheaper GRX 400 RD in the back which has a larger capacity, and 46/30 upfront. Way over Shimano specifications, but works fine.
@@TrentSiggard lol. Sorry, this came up on my feed and for some reason I assumed you’re someone with like 1 million followers. I think I should be less abrupt on my UA-cam comments. I suppose it shouldn’t even matter how many followers or subscribers somebody has. I suppose I have some reflecting to do lol. I’m new to bikepacking and I noticed there are a few interesting habits that ultralight backpacking has worked through. A good example of this is the overuse of individual stuff sacks and overbuilt, waterproof dry bags with grab handles. As for the tent, Tarptent double rainbow Li is one of my favourites. It’s a big two person under 2lbs with lots of great features.
Beautiful bike, Beautiful setup, Beautiful view!!! Perfect ❤❤
Nice gravel bike!
That's a nice set-up
Thank you!
Those old man mountain set ups are crazy expensive! I have one for my mountain bike, it was quite the investment
They're with it though!
And it looks cool which is the most important thing
looks awesome
sick dude!
Nice bike!
GCN would rank that with a Super Nice!
Heck yeah!
i love it
All sick minus the future shock
I've been enjoying my Redshift stem on other bikes more, tbh
sweet ride
Love it man. But bolted? That velcro
Beautiful! I have the same bike!! 😍 how you mount the front rack to the bike?, not to the wheels of course, but to the frame..?

How did this set up work for you? What size wheels and tires are you running?
Is this sexy bike carbon alu?
That looks dialed!!

Do you spend most of your days telling others how to spend their money?
@@paulvanreesch2493 do you spend most of your days hating?
What size tires?
Fancy
Totally not sponsored at all
I've taken no money from any company who has stuff on this bike :)
Looks great. What size tires? Did you have to buy a wider thru axel?
Old Man Mountain's sister company makes axles that the racks mount to!
You can always use the normal eyelets too!
Why do you choose a front rack +bags over rear rack?

How do you like that old man mountain Elkhorn? Any issues with it at all?
None! It’s wonderful, and nice to have cargo capacity whenever I need it!

I’m running a 40. With B limit screw fully extended. I think you need the other GRX derailure to get the 42 tooth on. Thinking about it, myself!!

Do u prefer more weight on the front? Steering must be annoying with this setup?
Weight dampens steering which is a benefit to me. There isn't too much weight up front either, compared to two full size panniers.
What is that larger bottle and cage called?
Looks like a Nalgene bottle in a Velo Orange Mojave bottle cage
2 by FTW
always 2x
hi 😊 may i ask your front rack info?
Front Rack is an Old Man Mountain Elkhorn rack! I love it so much!
Why don't you use normal panniers. So many small bags are not very convenient. I also assume your carrying a backpack.
no backpack!
bottom bottle is smth strange🙃
That’s so much money, biking has become soooo boogie, my set up is not this nice and wayyyy heavier lol but I make do and love every min of it
It's more of a touring than bikepacking
Business in the front, party in the back! (Touring in the front, bikepacking in the back)
Why are people still running these morbidly overweight tents?
What tent do you recommend? I’m in the market for one.
