1931 is a brilliant record, the use of archive audio and some dark storytelling mixed with superb musicianship makes it a joy to listen to. It's not a throwaway pop record, or background music but if you have the time to sit and immerse in it, then you too will fall in love with it.
"Pink World" changed my life, and it still means so much to me to this day. I was just listening to it with my 15 year old son, who also loves it. I think it's one of the most underrated records in rock history.
Planet P and Pink World are two of my favorite albums of all time. I listened to them obsessively for years when they came out, went years without hearing them, and now I'm on them again for several years. Not a month goes by that I don't listen to something by Tony Carey, and sometimes it's daily. It's my #1 goto when I want to FEEL. Now I'm obsessed with The Red Door. My grown son and I relate to each other through music, and the most intimate thing I could come up with to buy him for Christmas was Planet P and Pink World on vinyl. Thank you so much for your music, Tony!!! ❤
Thank you so much for shining the spotlight on Tony. Those two albums 1931 and Levittown that he discusses are nothing short of sensational; musically brilliant, lyrically poignant, oftentimes witty, deep, thoughtful, clever pieces of work, sizzling hot playing throughout … highly recommend. I am very keen to hear the remastered versions.
When you consider the era of music Tony comes from and that he is still creating epic music both solo and the Mandoki Soulmates - you figure out why he has such loyal fan base
1931 is an incredible piece of art. I loved it the first time I heard it. As Mr C suggests, it is not the kind of music you play on your first date if yer hopin’ tah git luckee, but for sheer power it is bloody hard to beat. As an aside, I have turned many a girlfriend towards Monsieur Tony, but I’ve tended to start with something like For You. Another brilliant album, 👏👏👏 Can’t wait for the remasters. Thanks for the intelligent interview. 👍
What a guy!!! Big heart mixed with huuuge talent - love all his work and I've been following him ever since I got my copy of "Some though city" back when it was released. Of course I knew about Rising... but anyway - great guy...
I remember the first time I heard Why Me? on the radio. Loved it! I was 15 yrs. old. Had to find out who it was. Bought the cassette. Loved it. The rest of the album sounds different, but it's still really good! Then at 16, Pink World came out. I would sit and listen to it while reading the lyrics. That album was therapy for me!! And then 1931 comes along. WOW!! All three of the G.O.D. box albums are great. Actually four. The demos. And, Are you kidding me!? A Pink World Movie!! I almost fainted!! Tony Carey is the greatest history teacher Ever!! Thank You for sharing these interviews with us!!!!😁😎
"You Tell The Big Lie. Still works, doesn't it?" These albums are still in my goto list while working. They mix fantastic rhythm with political foreboding messaging creating a hook that remains relevant today, unfortunately. Tony mentions Tommy and The Wall. These albums fit nicely into this "holiday camp". Thanks for the ride TC. I can't wait for the new releases.
'1931' was recorded in 1990, in response to the neo-fascists popping up in the former East Germany after the Berlin Wall came down. When you hear it, it'll probably remind you of something a bit more recent. Unfortunately.
I had a promo copy actually it was on Geffen white label really good lol also Pink World but German pressing another really good copy ..I had close to 5000 copies of Lp's .
