- Sofia Gubaidulina's "Seven Words" is a composition for cello, bayan, and strings based upon Christ's Seven Last Words on the Cross. This is a section of the composition performed in Eurythmy by the Goetheanum Stage Ensemble. For this beautiful film version, the camera work and editing were by Sam Russell with final production by Hagens Recording Studio.
Note: this version presents the music and eurythmy of the original performance, without voice-over.
Lovely: so hard to follow a piece of music without a melodic line, but the dancers and the camera flow, with haunting mystery, a hamony in it's own right.
Amazing. This was the first piece of Eurythmy I have ever seen... being a long time student of anthroposophy. I loved it. I cried twice.
The Music was Amazing as Well. Big Zappa Fan, so it was just so amazing... wonderful.
fyi: "The seven words"
1. Forgiveness, 2. Salvation, 3. Relationship, 4. Abandonment, 5. Distress, 6. Triumph and 7. Reunion. (From Wikipedia)
in der musikalischen Komposition gibt es nur ein Wort: Dristress!

Eurythmy is not supposed to be modern dance, the two are not related or equivocal. Eurythmy is communication in a very specific language of movement, and although it is choreographed, it is not "interpretative" in the sense that dance is. It has its own alphabet, its own set of movements for various sounds, musical chords, colors, etc. It can be quite powerful and moving, although in my experience it is best as a personal practice, as opposed to a performing art.
Very nice and accurate!
The music is quite mystical, achieved through quite minimalist ways.Thank you. Do you have any samples of her other "numerical mysticism" eg her use of the Fibonacci sequence - as I am always fascinated by how composers marry music and maths together.
Is this inspired from that movie Logans run ? Especially the carousel scene.
Waiting patiently for a kaftan, none shown ... hmmm. The general message is well taken though

Die Formen laufen also anspruchsvoll. Danke. -
grotesque
Kind of satanic dance
so removed from the power and the humanity of Christ's last words.. ridiculous is the word that springs to mind when i see this kind of gesturing and hovering about in kaftans, like silly Geisha dancing... genuine modern dance is so much more powerful and expressive and genuinely moving and inspiring and spiritual. At best, this is like the reflection of the Crucifixion on a soap bubble, and at worst is only related to it by a huge amount of good intentions. but good intentions are never art
