Steve Nichols who was the design chief on the MP4/4 says there was nothing utilized from the BT55 in the MP4/4. The MP4/4 was actually an evolution of McLaren's 1987 MP4/3 which was powered by the TAG-Porsche engine. Search for him on UA-cam. Fascinating interview with him earlier this year. Gordon Murray took way too much credit for a car, whose design and build was well along when he joined McLaren. Only thing Murray was really responsible for was the gearbox. Sore subject with Nichols and the other guys on the design team of MP4/4. BT55 was last F1 car that Murray designed and he did not want that car to be the car that defined his legacy (since everyone remembers the last car and the BT55 bombed big time).

I love those old cars all the front and rear wing pieces are cut out and the case from GpReplicas just looks amazing. The blue is great too.

There was no ambulance nor helicopter at the track so the crews had to go out and get him. That all changed after De Angelis's death. He never should have died which made it so senseless and sad. They also put a chicane in the middle of the Mistral Straight after his crash. Irony is that Patrese was supposed to be at Ricard for the test but De Angelis asked him after Monaco if he wanted to let him do it instead. De Angelis being the new boy at Brabham and had been struggling with the BT55. Patrese agreed if it was okay with Bernie Ecclestone and it was. So, Patrese went on holiday with his family instead. Patrese has always shrugged it off being fate. He believed when it is your time, it is your time.

A very nicely detailed model, but the the left side radiator duct location was not identical to the right side and is not correct. The Armani font on the engine cover is far too large and just looks a bit odd, and the steering wheel logo for that year was the the Vector logo 'B' the same as on the nosecone. For me the Minichamps 1/43 remains the most accurate model to date of the BT55.

Elio is one of the most interesting and underapreciated drivers. He was pretty comparable to Mansell in Lotus, and his 1982 (I think) Austrian GP win was undoubtedly one of the top 5 best finishes in F1 history of you ask me. Unfortunately, we never got to really see what he could do outside of the Lotus. His piano playing can be found on UA-cam too.

I would say De Angelis was more comparable to Patrick Tambay. Both were gentleman drivers who managed to win exactly 2 races each in F1.
