I listened to this vinyl non-stop as a child in the late 70s/early 80s. You have no idea the memories you just re-awakened. The blessed side sounds of the needle. Speaker worthy audio recording. I'm listening on headphones, and I feel the vibrations. I love you.
Thank you, Sir A.C. Clarke, Kubrick, Ligeti, Moon-watcher, HAL, and the entire team in the creation of a masterpiece. "Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do. I'm half crazy all for the love of you..."
One really strange thing... When I was 13, I had the original vinyl soundtrack and was listening to the beginning György Ligeti. Requiem Kyrie Section with headphones on. I was alone, and in the dark. At the 2:00 mark, I heard a door open, then quietly close, then someone whisper, "Psst... hey, Joe..." and it scared the living crap out of me. It was very faint and you could barely hear it. On your rip, I can hear the door, but not the whisper... creeeeepy!

I waited too long to watch this. I think it's the greatest film ever created, and if it didn't inspire just about everything to come after it, I'd be surprised.
The surreal music of György Ligeti really creates an otherworldly atmosphere. These are my favorite selections in the soundtrack, although the more familiar classical selections are also iconic and superb.
I had this album at 8 years old. I listened to it constantly! I finally saw the film with my older brother and Dad, but we walked in during Floyd's trip to the station, and missed the Dawn sequence. I have since seen it 20 times and I keep the 4K BluRay in my collection.
Christiane helped him out by listening to radio and hearing either the Requiem by Ligeti or the Khatchaturian Suite, and either called Stanley, or someone else at Elstree, to let Stanley know she had heard it. She thought it would fit in the film. Sure enough, Stanley got the message, listened to it, and thought it was perfect. I believe he then phoned her and told her that.
This soundrack and the film are mesmerizing. Just listening to the album is a mind and universe trip. Who needs any drugs when you have art such as this?
Yes, this is a Universe trip! Well said! I hope that some day such the trips are possible... By the way - my and my wife's names are just flying to Mars! Perseverance! :-)

Back in 1896 a group of composers were discussing musical trends, and one of them says "In maybe a century, they'll be wanting us to compose music for and about space". Richard Strauss turns to them and says "Hold my Claret".
19:31 wow! This sounds like James Horner's Aliens ost ! :) I think he might has been influenced by this one, and I can totally understand why :D beautiful. Interestingly, it also sounds like 12 Monkeys.
@@steveyonker1055 Steve, If this turn table is like the one I was loaned when I was younger, you can sync exactly to 33 1/3 in the dark with the dots and a built in neon light. A sweet feature. :) Blast Blue Danube for me. Keep It "ReeL", Evan
Wow. Like many others here I have no idea what country this pressing is from, but it is astounding compared to the several US copies I've had over the years. They sound cheap by comparison. This sounds like a well pressed classical record.

Never underestimate the power of music. One of the reasons this movie is a masterpiece is the music combined with the greatest cinematography.
Love this soundtrack and the movie. Been on the lookout for the UK mono 1st press for quite some time now. Thanks for the upload.

Perhaps the greatest cinematic achievement of the 20th century!
And it happened about the same time as Apollo 8, not to mention Star Trek (TOS). I fully expected to take a visit to the moon myself back then.

26:20 - This part reminds me of Close Encounter of the Third Kind, in the end of the movie. 2001 - Excellent soundtrack!
Muchas gracias por compartir!
Stanley Kubrick was a Master Filmmaker, his eclectic taste in music for all his films was absolute perfection.
Christiane helped him out by listening to radio and hearing either the Requiem by Ligeti or the Khatchaturian Suite, and either called Stanley, or someone else at Elstree, to let Stanley know she had heard it. How very interesting I being an extreme Kubrick enthusiast thank you. @@jawoody9745
