My dad was a member of the Teamsters when he worked for Allied Supermarkets in the Detroit area. It was in the late 1970's and the company he worked for was having financial trouble and asked for concessions. The workers knew this as true and that there would be layoffs at least if not closure. Their union spokesman said F the company and go out on strike anyway. Well the workers did not take the union spokesmans advice and put off striking and didn't demand a pay increase. My dad retired from there with a full pension. Not saying all union spokesmen are bad but they really have no skin in the game , except collecting union dues. ,

Some years ago, I went on the internet and looked up which states had the highest minimum wage. Not surprisingly, the top 5 were the most Liberal in the Country. But 3 of them had CAVIATS to enforcing that wage. A company had to have gross receipts of $300,000 / year. So even these most Liberal states acknowledged that the Conservative Economist Milton Friedman was and is correct about his Limited Funds to Pay Workers theory. It does no good to give someone a raise if it means they have no job.

Or Mexico. In the 80’s, the UAW had their workers at a struggling plant in Michigan, go on strike for higher wages mostly. The company closed the plant and moved their operation down south. Now, auto companies move to Mexico. The Teamsters aren’t any better. That’s another story.

I know what he meant. I use to see members clock in to work and go hide in a closet, back room, or their cars every single day and never respond to radio calls. Only once did I see one get fired and it took a trial with a dozen members to testify against him. He still got a huge settlement and already had a better job waiting for him.

This guy sounds reasonable until he says, "I'm a lifetime Democrat, I'll never change." Why would you make a decision to back someone before you knew their policies and character? With deeper thought, this guy would realize that with Trump the economy will prosper and so will the workers, but under Kamala business will decline and workers will be worse off. Therefore, being a 'Democrat" would go against his stated goal of working for the 1.1m workers in his union.
The auto workers I know said they were Trump voters but aren't fond of telling others. Fain is a sellout most say.

Or Mexico. In the 80’s, the UAW had their workers at a struggling plant in Michigan, go on strike for higher wages mostly. The company closed the plant and moved their operation down south. Now, auto companies move to Mexico. The Teamsters aren’t any better. That’s another story.
Calling firing people who refuse to work “terrorism” is pretty insane. The point of a strike is to put pressure on management because your labor is necessary to make profits. If your strike just proves to management that your labor is not necessary, then that’s on you. That’s extreme level entitlement if you bring no value to the company and still think you are owed a job.

My father worked for GM and was part of the UAW for 35 years. When I was a kid he always used to tell me it stands for (U ain't Working). Months after he retired he got Covid and passed. Love you pops!

I know what he meant. I use to see members clock in to work and go hide in a closet, back room, or their cars every single day and never respond to radio calls. Only once did I see one get fired and it took a trial with a dozen members to testify against him. He still got a huge settlement and already had a better job waiting for him.

I worked for teamsters and was in the steel company and we got sold out and alot people lost their 401k and they had someone eles take over and they shut down.
