  • We think that the name "Mince Pie Specials" is correct, but as no headboard was provided for these trains we can't confirm it.
These specials ran in the days following Christmas 1994 (again, dates, times etc are long forgotten) They started from Paddington, ran around the Greenford loop, (some clockwise, some anticlockwise) and returned to Paddington. Unlike the Santa trains, both locos were used, alternating between the two with the spare one returning to Old Oak Common for turning.
The arrivals and departures at Paddington were shot from the area that had formerly been used for mail traffic. This was reached by walking past the end of platform one. We had the camera set up at the top of some steps that led straight onto the track and that's where we were standing when the police arrived. Unbelieveably, they wanted to know if we had seen a group of kids throwing things off of the road bridge and when we said that we hadn't, they left. At no time did they ask who we were or what we were doing there. Happier times.

Brilliant video Martyn. Great to see the loco on main line, many years ago. Brought back great memories of the 90s. We used to live in London then. The steam age were the best days. The station just outside Paddington ( Royal Oak ) was a fantastic location. We spent time there. Best wishes C&A

All I remember of these trips is that it was access all areas in and around Paddington, and there wasn’t an overhead wire in sight.

Great captures these shots, I never knew 46521 had worked on the mainline until you uploaded the Santa versions, some great shots from places now long gone. Thanks for uploading.

Thanks very much for your comment. I can’t remember how much work 46521 got out of its mainline ticket. We recorded it on a series of shuttles on the Henley branch around the same time as these. But other than that I don’t know.

Great video! Don't remember those tours but certainly anything south of London in the 1990's my Mum & Dad would of taken myself and my brother along to watch them, perhaps your future uploads are those tours! 30777, 828, 34027 & 75069 usually then later on 73096.

I’m sorry I never replied to this comment when you made it a year ago. If it’s not too late I thank you very much. I too had a dad that used to take me and my brother all over the place in pursuit of steam. Indeed all those locos except 75069 are somewhere in our mainline video archives. One day we’ll get round to sharing them.
