The 70s were something special. Especially for black folk. I was a youngun (born in 1969) but I couldn't wait to grow up because all the adults were having such a good time.
There's absolutely NOTHING like the original "Car Wash". Both the song and the movie from 1976. I was only seven years old and it was awesome then and still awesome today.🙌
I saw this at the Drive-In theater in Union NJ and as a 9 year old it was an exciting time. The 1970’s was an incredible time to grow up. The movies usually went hand in hand with the music. Car Wash obviously is a example of that...
I saw this movie in 76 , it was fantastic ! ! ! Many months later it was shown at my high school , I watched it there also , it was fantastic ! ! ! The high school auditorium was absolutely full with all the students wanting to see Car Wash and dig this song , the whole auditorium clapped to the rhythm at the intro song . It was fantastic ! Watch this movie , it's the culture of that time period . You see the car wash receptionist girl ; that's how girls looked at that time . She looks really hot ! ! !
77 born but i remember watching this movie around 88. It gave me a sense of what the 70s were like. That's why the 70s are my favorite decade. Everybody was so hype and cool, rocking big fares and bell bottoms. Plus I'm a 70s baby too. Lol
My uncle took me to see this at the movie theater when I was 8 yrs old, I'm 52 now and am seeing this clip for the 1st time since then....brings back some memories from long ago.
As a teen I saw this on a double bill - with American Graffiti - at the ABC theatre on brodaway Bradford - it was just before Golum & Globus - didnt pay their taxes allegedly - and had the whole abc cinema network shut down - after seeining it i went back and saw it over and over - it was amazing - that music of whitfields & Rose Royce was amazing - when i'm fed up i still pop my dvd on a reflect on things - its one film that chhers me up ! - I have got myself a couple of tickets to see Rose Rose in Leeds Yorkshire UK end of July cannot wait !
In San Francisco back in the day we had KSOL and KDIA with Skin & Bones Bob Jones. It was the bomb. Miss those days. Shout out to Potrero Hill The guys: Eddie Rash, Derek Hunter, Clark Flowers, Linda Henegan, Kerry and all the rest. Love you guys, Paula 🤗
SADLY QUARANTINED BUT HAPPILY WATCHING CAR WASH 3/31/20, 5:30pm ONE OF MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE MOVIES OF ALL TIMES!!! I absolutely love the characters Lindy, Hippo, T.C., Irwin & Lonnie in this movie...ESPECIALLY LINDY & IRWIN!!! I can almost quote this whole movie & I NEVER get tired of watching this AWESOME MOVIE!!! The soundtrack is AWESOME too!!! I would love to see this movie re-released in movie theaters just to see if people would go see it AGAIN...AN ABSOLUTE CLASSIC CULT MOVIE!!! Much love from Mobile Alabama.
We need something like this now a days, that would be totally fun to have a real live version of this, acting out this entire scene lol i know it would never work and go over well but hey i think it would be cool!
Why isn't there a "Where are they now?" video for this movie? I'd be curious to see where a few of the lesser known actors/actresses are or have done after this movie.
Remember as a youngster, i taped this on sky one evening (before all that categorized channel bullshit) and would watch it religiously, to the point where I knew the shit line for line. Great 70s gem
I had the 45. I played it like 20 times in a row until my mom would say “would you PLEASE change that record! “ 🤣 I was 12 when the movie came out but didn’t see the movie til later. (It was too “adult” for us kids. My parents were STRICT!) 😂
Such a carefree time! We’d just gotten HBO so we watched this every single time it aired. I probably saw this 20 times by the age of 7!! The full soundtrack is a killer too!
The best and funniest use of butter ever put into a movie...and I very much include Last Tango in Paris...lol...in this movie, the butter ends up in a funnier place...lol
n 1977 Whitfield helped the band, which had swelled to nine members (including featured vocalist Gwen Dickey), to get a gig as the lead act on the Whitfield-produced MCA soundtrack to the Richard Pryor movie Car Wash. And the title song became history. With its hand-clapping, funky intro, Dickey's exciting lead vocals and the band's great performance, the title track became one of the biggest dance songs ever, leaping to #1 on the pop and soul charts and taking Rose Royce with it. And “Car Wash” sat at the top of the charts on January 1, 1977, becoming Rose Royce’s first and biggest hit.
No, it's Hanna. Although De Luxe Car Wash was a hand car wash, the Surface conveyor, Chemical arches, Polish 'n Wax Component (That thing with the red filament brushes) and driers are Hanna. Superior wasn't even around until the mid 1990's, and this movie was shot in 1975.
Classic!!!! So many memories from that time. Wish I could go back to a much simpler time with the knowledge I have in today's world. I would be very rich.
My mother and father had us girls AND boys doing house-work and though my sisters and brothers were older than I, they all used to "jam the box" which made our day go by much faster. Now my kids do the same thing!
that is a nice Fury... probably a 360 4 bbl, or a 318... couple years before, mighta been a 440 MAGNUM... 70's BIG cars... my Old Uncle Walt drove Nothing but Fury's for 25 years... what great days, gone forever...
rachael ray should play Marsha, jay leno as the car was big boss, ice cube as the supervisor of the car wash movie. jameel white as the fly, Tracey Morgan as hippo, Rupaul as Lindy, Zac Efron as Irwin, Kevin hart as Duane Ryan Reynolds as Kenny Marshas dream crush and Steve Harvey as daddy rich remake must be in new York. don't forget Morgan Freeman plays fan of the daddy rich radio show in new York location. if Ghostbusters was great this will be too
none of those bums could even come close to the original cast of this movie. Richard Pryor is perfect as Daddy Rich, Franklin Ajaye is the Ultimate Fly! Huggie Bear as Lindy is spot on! Garret Morris is great as slide. Lloyd and Floyd got their act together!
Haha I know you're joking but I've been working at a car wash for about 9 months and it's awesome. You make great tips but there's multiple days where you won't work due to the weather.
wow....cool song and film...the '70s ruled!!!!...is James Spinks related to Leon and Michael Spinks????.....the song is one of my favorites...I have the 45...like I said the '70s ruled even though I was little then...I know (not personally) Ivan Dixon he was on Hogan's Heroes before this film...is Antonio Fargas still with us??...I can't remember.......when he was doing this film he was Huggy Bear on Starsky and Hutch...rip Richard Pryor
If you weren't around in 1976 and wonder what it was like watch this movie. It captures the spirit of that year to a tee.
Thank you
The new generation don't watch old movies
@@christianchappell4193 i was born in 2002 i watch old movies

This movie still holds up. Still funny as hell 44 years later.
MMA FIGHTER Picture someone doing a re-make of this film who among black directors could pull it off?????
There's absolutely NOTHING like the original "Car Wash". Both the song and the movie from 1976. I was only seven years old and it was awesome then and still awesome today.🙌
I MISS THE 70s !!!!! so much fun and freedom back then.

American Graffiti was tired - old 50's crap by this time.
Car Wash was 70's.
The two dudes at 1:33 were always my favorite!
thank God for 1976 ! Greatest begging of a movie !
The Car Wash, where the boss don't mind if you sometimes act a fool. Sounds like a good boss ..
It's "the boss don't mind sometimes if you're at the pool"
@ 😂😂😂😂
Man things were different back in 1970s
The boss was always in the back office making some good deals
Does the boss mind if you have to blow a stool
For anyone wondering what the car is, it is a 1975-76 Plymouth Fury.

Have you seen Friday? It's not from "now a days" but it's the same style as Car Wash. Ice Cube even said that they aimed to make a newer Car wash.
Enchisedmy Ever see The Wash with Snoop Dog?
danlc95 No, I haven't even heard of it. I'll take a look, even though snoop in as an actor kind of puts me off. Thanks, man.
Enchisedmy - It's pretty good.
I dont know why, but this movie always cheers me up.
Carla Linton. Car Wash is one of Favorite Movies of the seventies.

Awesome Movie!
Marzan Worldwide JJ Jackson passed away some years ago hard to believe
Love the DJ...at the start of the song......those where the days!!...great music and weed...😊
Another 70s pun...that license plate on the Fury... 2"54" NOW lol.
Maybe the plate predicted the future. Studio 54 in New York didn't open until April, 1977.
Way back before car washes had neo glide wrap arounds, triple foam, Rain x and spotfree rinse.
Why isn't there a "Where are they now?" video for this movie? I'd be curious to see where a few of the lesser known actors/actresses are or have done after this movie.
There is a Unsung episode about this movie. Check it out on UA-cam
