My name is Cate Otanes, I am married to Keven. I am 25 years old and currently pursuing my Masters studies in Theology at Edinburgh Theological Seminary. I hold my honours degree in Theology from Highland Theological College. I am 100% Filipino. I grew up in the Philippines and moved to Scotland when I was 16 years old. I live in Scotland and I love it here. I am part of a Church Plant in the Schemes and I love my Church and Community. I am passionate about living a missional life. I had seen many videos about people quitting social media like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. And I want to say is "thank you". Because of you and your brave steps in life, I am also free from social media and I am walking with God right now. I started to learn different things and take on different hobbies in life such as photography, listening to music and podcasts, and learning many new skills in the outside world and making a bucket list for all of it.
Love when you mentioned comparing your life to Jesus life. Its so eye opening and encouraging because as Christians we should be following him. And what you said about distractions is so relatable. He is our perfect example. God bless ☺️

Great points about staying in your lane and focusing on relationships (especially during quarantine the need to stay connected has left me realizing I'm even less connected to not just friends who are far away but even more so my family who I live with). For me, instagram (bc I deleted it a while ago haha) and Facebook have not been that addicting for me but UA-cam has been very additive. Thanks for important reminders!

Great video!! I use to struggle with comparing myself to others on social media, but I also quit social media it was pretty tough at first, but I'm proud to say it's been a year!!

Brilliantly Insightful and helpful video Cate! I give you credit Cate for quitting social media aka fb. I have a prayer ministry on that network and in all honesty I do not like "social media", your video has encouraged me to come up with a plan, a challenge.. to get off of social media, and still have the ministry, and to be more focused productively in God's Work that he wants me to do.
"Stay In Your Own Lane"... Brilliant way of looking at this. I really like that. Fully focused on the work of the Lord.

Thank you for your multiple videos on this topic. I've appreciated each one. I've been really wrestling through this. What are your thoughts on Christians who say we need to be a light on social media and share the Gospel? Or that we need to use every platform we have to share truth? It feels like every where I turn that's what most Christians are saying. Honestly, I get the most push back from Christians about leaving social media. I feel a great tension between wanting to be a witness online and wanting to be free from social media for many reasons including the ones you mentioned. Appreciate any thoughts or advice.
Thank you so much for watching. someone said. "The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing." The main thing for me is my whole devotion to God. If anything replaces that, I am idolising that thing. Social media did that for me. Yes I shared the gospel there, but it was taking the main thing away from me. Hope this helps

If I wasn’t on Facebook I wouldn’t of known about some people passing away because no one would take time to let me know like in old days. I’m 53 years old and so most of my life was without any social media but people depend on it so much these days to stay in contact with each other. Sadly we socialize more on social media even more because of covid. I’m a faithful church goer but someone came to church being positive with covid so then our pastor had to resort to using Facebook live for now. All of my family live long distance from us so thats how we stay in touch. It would be pretty lonely without social media. You can witness and sing christian songs on facebook.

I was having a conversation with my sister about this actually, some people don’t have a very complex and eventful story when they came to know Christ...and that’s okay
@@humbledtolearned I never said she had to have a complex story about how she came to Christ, but considering she came from Catholic Background and her issues with her body image, I thought it would be interesting to know the full story.
