- I went on a fly fishing trip to southern Utah with my college buddy Dr. Codd. A good portion of the mountain was still inaccessible but we were able to get to several lakes and ended up catching a lot of fish.
tell doc gratz on his first tiger trout.
Haha, I'll let him know
Awesome video guys of fishing, hiking and then cooking..nothing better than that..thanks for sharing.
Thank you, we had a lot of fun. The food was fantastic.
Great video & great fish. Always fun to see your mountain adventures.
Thanks, we always have a good time
Love the videos. I've been looking at the Boulder Top areas for a long time, more than 10 years. This month a good buddy and I finally made the trek up. Started off Road 178 and went up from there from the town of Bicknell. I thought I had researched it all pretty well, but only one lake up there this year was producing, very disappointing trip. From watching your videos it looks like mostly lower areas, off the bench top. I've got a lot more homework to do, need to find an areas that is actually producing. We had a great time, but not anything what we expected or anticipated.
Unfortunately there was a big kill off up top during the 2018/2019 winter. Even lakes that rarely winter kill died off that winter. There are some lakes up top that produce big fish if they survive a few years. It's definitely a safer bet fishing the rim lakes but even some of those lakes winter kill from time to time
I caught some tanks outta there just last week. Great Lakes to fish. Awesome video!
Yeah they are fun lakes for sure
This is incredible! I'm moving to Logan in a few weeks, but would love to get down to the southern part of the state and check this out! Thanks for posting!
Yeah it's gorgeous country down there. If you're moving to Logan you'll be not too far from some other awesome ranges. The Uintas , Tetons and especially the Wind River range are all amazing.
@@TroutHowler That's awesome! I'll have to do more research and figure out where to go! I've never been to UT, excited to experience the fly fishing!
@@shelbysawyer2140 I imagine you'll be pleasantly surprised cause there's a lot great fishing in Utah.
Awesome stuff as always I was down that way last month I love it down there.
Yeah it's awesome. I'm heading down there to fish up top with the fam this weekend.
Lucky!!! If you ever need a fishing buddy let me know. Good luck down there!
awsome content! what is your go to scud pattern? size and color?
It's called a fast sinking scud . It's a Rich Osthoff pattern. I use a size 12 olive/gray most of the time in alpine lakes but I also tie them in pink and orange. I tie them in sizes 16, 14, 12 and a size 8 orange version that Rich calls a mega orange scud. The mega orange is deadly when fished deep with a shooting head line. Most of my truly big brookies have been caught on a mega orange scud.
Be safe n carry a sidearm or have good bear spray. I've had my share of close calls.Good vid partners
I always have one or the other--usually both
How are the smaller lakes down there? I heard a lot of them experienced severe winter kill? What have you found?
There was a massive kill off up top---not all lakes but a lot of them. A few rim lakes killed off as well. The lakes that have aerators on them seemed to have surivived as far as the ones I visited this year
Awesome video! I’m going to sub! I have a question though. What line do you use to fish those lakes?
For most of those lakes I use a floating line with a ten foot leader most of the time. Occasionally I'll use a sink tip but not often.
Get them back in the water faster
Sorry Terry, I forgot my fish sling shot on this particular trip. I'm usually able to fling them back into the water at incredible speeds. Thanks for watching and also for the laugh.
@@TroutHowler trout should be returned to the water in 5 to 8 seconds in order to assure viability. Not a joke.
@@terryrothwell6122 Are you a fisheries biologist?
Nice job guys! Looks like a good trip. Plus if you come across a woman in labor, you are prepared.
Haha, that's the main reason I invite Cameron---just in case someone needs an emergency delivery
@@TroutHowler I though you would like that. :)
16:07 Lol, where could you catch angus in the wild? Haha
The funny thing is that one of the lakes actually had some angus there haha
Amazing video loved it is it alright if you can shout me out again if not that's ok just asking love the video
Well the next video is already filmed, but i'll get you on one
Thanks man
Why the hell do you fishing when you don't eat fish
I let the vast majority go but I still eat some from places that have abundant fish populations. I haven't shown that in any of my videos as of yet but I probably will from some of my up coming trips in the spring and summer
Go Utes!
Great vid and beautiful fish! I also make fly fishing videos, would love for you to check em out!
Thanks man, I'll definitely check out your content
Can a car into those lakes?
No, you have to hike to all of them.
@@TroutHowler Let me try that again, can a car get into the trailheads. I noticed I forgot to add in get into my original post.
@@GoBlue576966 You need a high clearance vehicle, preferably 4wd
