Stay tuned for the next two episodes. The XJ goes through a MASSIVE transformation and then we beat the crap out of both vehicles on the trail..and yes SOMEONE does get the shock collar in the end!
As a fellow Idahoan and someone who's trying to get into Overlanding, I very much appreciated your vids and tutorials. Hopefully we'll see each other on the trails one day. Blessings to you.
Very few 4x4's are capable in stock form. But after owning two XJ's I can say that with at least a 3" lift, 32" tires, a rear locker, fender trimming & flares removed...it becomes a very worthy off-road machine. Definitely the most bang for the buck. Can't wait for the next episodes, but I'm going to bet the Cherokee wins.
'97 Cherokee Classic, dynatrac HP44, Spider 9 with true high 9 3rd and 40 spline shafts, Detroits. Miss that thing. XJs are so good. Reinforce the "frame" around the steering box, at minimum.
This is great. I really enjoyed this first installment. The competition is extremely exciting and has created a great amount of interest to me. I am like you in not being very mechanically inclined. SO, my upgrades and build cost me more. I wish I could afford to do things like this with friends. Helps to live a little Vicariously through you two. Great Job.
Very cool to see your version of this series and Nate's. You guys make very entertaining videos. Cant wait till the next one. btw, being a Jeep guy myself, my money is the jeep :)
Greetings, im in Star, Id! So glad you're doing a series on a cheap truck build, this will really relate to so many folks out there! Xjs are so classic and a solid build platform, i really miss mine, one of my best vehicles ive owned.
Oooo! You got K Suspension... that should bring you up to Par with Nates knowledge and setup. ... really digging your vehicle choice. Thinking this will be a fun series ... and Toyota vs Jeep! Interesting
Very cold to see the XJ, actually my first Jeep was an XJ 96, which was an excellent vehicle loved it. I should probably kept it. Good luck on the buildup. I can follow along in the videos and look forward to it. Merry Christmas as well.
Seeing you launch up that rock in the XJ was like seeing the high school version of you guys out 4 wheel'n. Balls to the walls! That was awesome. Cant wait to see more. So what ended up being the cause of the death wobble?
@Venture2Roam One of my rigs has been randomly doing the same thing. I was told it was the tires but after rotating and checking alignment it was still there. Replaced the tie rod and that helped but did not fix it. Hard to find a good mechanic you can trust. Thanks for the insight. And Merry Christmas!
4 1/2 to 6 1/2 inch lift, 33 or 35 inch MT's, and lockers and you would have popped up thru there in the XJ. They just need more tire and room to flex. I went 4 1/2 long arm lift paired with some knobby 33 inch MT's. HUGE difference. The tires sucked up any spare HP I had tho! If the tired old engine lasts til summer it'll get a 4.7 stroker, if it goes before then, might just be a plain old crate engine. Been wanting to do tougher trails, and don't wanna abuse my Cherokee Trailhawk, it's still pretty. So I'm building up an XJ to play in.
You messed up by not letting us know what you're doing in advance Will! I have a 97 XJ that I just put a motor in and SYE kit. It's on a 2 in lift with 31's that doesn't look as nice as yours, but you would have had a better platform to start with, and I would have delivered it for $3000. You would have saved on the axles and transfer case portion of your build. I even have a Trac-Loc locker I could have thrown in the front axle for a couple hundred!
@@Venture2Roam with Raffi working on it, it will be a nice one. Hope to run into to you somewhere in Oregon, or Idaho in the future. You going to Overland Expo PNW in June?
Not even fair that XJ will out perform that yota when it’s finished 4:88 with a rear posi and u should put a lunchbox locker upfront , the banana with rear posi and a lunchbox upfront goes anywhere
XJ's are cool but you shot yourself in the foot in base price. Should have started with a WJ and you would have been several $K lower in your base purchase price, but you got a great price on that XJ. Here in KS, they bring a pretty decent dollar.
Based on your logic about sponsors providing parts, Nate needs to charge normal shop rates for what he does to his build and log the amount of time he spends. Otherwise, how are you going to track the actual cost of his build?
If he’s putting in the work himself I don’t think he should track it because it’s not an out of pocket type cost. He reps the DIY type build, I rep the outsourced install type build.
Still better than 90% of channels haha. They cont count their spoons or products and blow their budgets anyways. And $20k is the cost of a super cheap new car, and instead they'll have sweet built rigs

This is about the most fun I have ever had on 4 wheels, can't wait to show everyone the builds and how nuts things get in the finale.
Same here man. What a blast...the rest of the series is kind of insane.
Had a blast working with you guys!
Just watched your video and now here for the other view. Looking forward to what’s next.
Now that’s how you start a series!!!
Let’s gooo!!!! 🔥
Can’t wait for folks to see how good you guys are in the next episode.

I love that XJ now. Feels unstoppable.

Excellent idea to keep the content fresh ! I've really enjoyed your channel , can't hardly wait to see what the wheel of pain happens!
Right on. Next Episode in this series coming very soon!
This is such a cool idea! I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of it!
Thanks Rob…hope to get you in the next one!
@@Venture2Roam uh yeah
This is gonna be a fun series to watch!

Thank you, more coming on this soon!
It hurts my soul to hear Nathan call the legendary 4.0 an “underpowered V6.”
well it seriously is
I think he also called it the most reliable engine they ever built. Just wait until you see it in the rug o war and drag race!
@ well it was the most reliable engine they ever built that’s for sure.
@@HighCentered just te-read this. Lol. It also wasn’t a V6. It was an in-line 6
I'll also say this...gearing makes a massive difference with that thing. It doesn't feel underpowered at all now.
Man i am pumped to see the rest of this series. What a great intro to this. I’m team XJ
Thanks dude. We gotta get out XJs out together.
And so it begins. I am looking forward to watching this series. I watch both channels so it will be like stereo vision.
Awesome. We had a blast…and did things very differently lol.
Can’t wait to see episodes 2 & 3!!
Coming very soon!
LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS BIG TIME! Such a great first episode - now on to watch Nate’s version! 👊🏼💯
Thanks Greg!
I love this. Merry Christmas y’all 🎄

Merry Christmas!

I love that XJ. It’s been a total blast to build.
Yess!!!! It’s so great ❤️
🙌
This is gonna be a great series love it!!
Thanks Mike!
Being a Jeep guy, I’m pulling for the XJ over the Soccer Mom mobile.
Off to a great start. This is gonna be fun.
Woo-Hoo!!
I have junk the next episodes watching the two builds will be a lot of fun.
Dude, you scored with those axles and other parts at K Suspension! Looking forward to the buildout
I got a couple of scores like that during the build. That’s what I love about XJs…so many people have parts.
This is going to be so much fun.
🙌
2 of my favorite classics!
🙌
The opening line… lmao
The best part is, that’s unsurprising 😂😂😂
Lol. Touché

The build episode should be fun…we did a ton of work.
Seeing you launch up that rock in the XJ was like seeing the high school version of you guys out 4 wheel'n. Balls to the walls! That was awesome. Cant wait to see more. So what ended up being the cause of the death wobble?
I think it was ball joints and track bar.

The build we do on the XJ is so good...there are so many little things to think about and that come up when you start stripping out 25 year old parts!
Will these tests/diag be subtracted from your budget? Love this is series so far!!!
We count everything in the budgets. We took that part very seriously. Raffi tracked everything for me.
It wasn't very expensive though. It only took Raffi about 15 minutes to run the diagnostics.
Loved seeing you beat the xj over that obstacle. Lol. Good stuff.
Send it!!!!
Praise wheel of pain! 😂 the proper way to choose your destiny.
😂. It’s kind of brutal, but a ton of fun.
I'll give you my JLUR for free and you can put the whole 20k in it. Then you can give it back after the comp. lol
😂😂🤘
XJ very well
welcome to xj life buddy!
Lol. It’s a good life.
@@Venture2Roam i have built 8 xjs in the last 30 years i have 2 now the one i drive is right hand drive mail xj with 400k

This Toyota is not 90 series but 100 series!! BIG difference.
Ya that was my mistake when recording.
Anyway nice video. Waiting for next episode :). Good work :)
True story. My wife drives a Toyata and love the Indigio Girls 🤣
😂😂😂 Thank you for making my statement factual 😂.
Had to find your channel because team jeep that’s why
Glad you found it! Hope you come back.
I know you're a Jeep guy. And I knew what you meant. But it's an 100 series land cruiser. Happy new year
I know…I screwed that one up on camera. 🤦♂️
hear we go now, holla if you hear me yo come and feel me flow now...
I love that song
Xj still might win but if you did your own work I fully believe xj for sure win

Dang it.
$20k? 1st or 2nd gen Tacoma TRD off road. 3”spacer lift. cut off wheel and 35s. $15k tops
$20K is the ceiling. We both tried to stay way under.
no low ball
Love it but I am a little bias
Your name gives it away lol.

Drag "Grace"? Hmmmmm 🤔
Oh ya…I’m terrible with a key board.
Use the brakes when the tires were spinning. Poor mans posi.
Ya I had to learn to drive an XJ Offroad. It’s a great learning platform.
I have a 2002 landcruiser
