Having just come from ep2 and just a few minutes into this one, I just had to stop by to say I'm absolutely thoroughly enjoying it. I can see how much time and effort has gone into this series, I'll be sure to share this with my flight sim Discord, as there's plenty of bikers over there who would love this. See you on the next one!
Greetings fellow UA-camr. I live in the State of Virginia, State where the Settlers arrived back in 1607. Famous to motorcyclist for the Blue Ridge Parkway, and many other motorcycle friendly roads, Back of the Dragon, etc. I have been a subscriber since your video of the 360 camera 3 years ago, May 2021. I have been watching this series and am really enjoying it. Good to see you enjoying the Harley. These bikes are made for exactly what you all are doing, hitting the big open road. I have a few bikes, and the Electra Glide is my favorite for putting down the miles. The dropping of the bike is something that has happened to the best of us, after all it's 1000 pounds. I dropped mine the same way, overlooking a beautiful valley I had pulled over to get some footage of. It's in one of my videos back about 2 years. The name "kick stand" is proper for Harleys because that is actually what one does since they are so far forward for anyone under 6 feet. A proper kick (as you would say) is what's needed. I'm sure after a while, you learned that trick. Take care and stay safe. I'll be watching. 🇺🇸 🇮🇪
Good to hear from you State side. That’s very true about the kick stand, a few of us learned the hard way unfortunately. The bikes were also capable of rolling forward under their own weight off the stand too if parked on a slight incline. Glad you’re enjoying the series and thanks for the message. 🙏
@WheelieGoodTV Once you've owned these bikes for a while, you get used to all the idiosyncrasies that make them very different. I will say, once the weight of the bike is on the stand she will never falter, matter of fact if on a hill and not in gear she may roll down the hill but the stand will not fold 😆 Peace brother ✌🏽 My wife is Irish decent, so not too far into the future we will be visiting your beautiful country.
I know it's an organized tour ,but 8-10 times,?? Living in the states I know they have missed 99% of the country. So much to see- so little time. I would have wanted to take an extra week or so to explore many US backroads to find other non-tourist sites and talk to the locals at a McDonald's while doing coffee., and finding a small but clean motel at the end of the day. A true cowboy adventure. 👍👍
Agreed but it’s an organized journey meant to cover a specific path within a two week period. As a fund raiser, they have to look for an iconic path but attract as many people as possible so need to keep it short. I agree with you that adding a week or two would open up opportunities to really see the country. I’m not sure they’d gotten 60 riders if they doubled the time of the trip. Also think about the rental cost for the motorcycle. I agree that adding a week or two would have given the opportunity to see more of the nuance of the country. Hopefully some of the riders tacked on time at the end to more slowly see parts of the road.
I'm number 300 "like" Dave😀 I'm not surprised you dumped the bike, it's bound to happen sometime. I think aGoldy will be a better bet next time...It would be perfection on that route. I can't get my head around that whale thing. I guess there was a lot of chemicals going around the design office that day. see ya on the next one.
Another great episode Dave, I got back int bikes at 47 now 64 there's not a day goes by I don't think about bikes, your defiantly keeping the dream alive.🍔🥩fried.
Just superb video Dave. Really special this one. It’s like any show that’s great- you don’t know why - it’s the ingredients and how it comes together. Very funny lol moments too. False teeth and suspensions 🤣🤣🏍️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for this wonderful series Dave. I did Rte 66 with 3 mates in 2006. Your trip and commentary is bringing back so many wonderful memories. We stopped at the Rock Inn in Stroud on our way to Oklahoma City. We were not sure how far it was and we asked our server, a young chap, “Hey how far to Oklahoma City”. “Don’t know never been there, I’ll ask the owner”. It turned out that the owner nor the two customers at the bar didn’t know as they had never travelled that far. Its actually about 70 miles. Travelling through rural USA (which 99% of America is) and which I’ve had the privilege of doing a couple of times now, especially on a bike enables you to experience the country and the people.
Loving the trip so far, laughed out loud at the “fried” pork chop 😂😂I just knew what was coming. Looking forward to how you complete the last section from Barstow to Santa Monica as depending which route you take it’s either a nightmare of traffic lights and junctions or a mess of a crazy freeway, safe travels Dave 🍻
And a centre stand which doesn’t lock into place underneath the bike. Just one of the many design flaws with this bag of metal. All shall unfold as our journey continues…🤯
Really enjoyed this episode Dave.. truly feels like you’re there. Think you will need many salads after all that fried food!! Great experience, a true bucket list trip.
Re you little topple, I’ve noticed that the side stands on the Harleys don’t look as if they don’t go far enough forward and always look unstable to me so don’t lose any sleep over it 👍 Great videos of what must have been a fantastic trip 😊
@@WheelieGoodTVI had the same thing happen to me with a large cruiser. Indian Chieftain. Gorgeous bike. Bike a pig. I dropped mine in a rest area up a mountain and brought down the Harley next to me. I almost felt bad. But I pointed out that the bike was achieving its natural state. It wanted to lay down of you were going less than 10 MPH. Getting fuel was always an adventure.
They’re great memories to have. I honestly couldn’t believe I have held these feelings and memories until this moment without realising the impact they had on my life. This bike from 46 years ago is the whole reason I’m doing Route 66! Unreal. 🤯
Cup of tea, slice of toast, and Dave taking us along on Route 66. Best way to start a Saturday. Great video and loved the little side stories assiciate with your route.
Another great ride out on Route 66! A Blue whale, Motorbike museum, Rainbow Bridge, Concrete Totem Pole, Irish potato Famine, History of Choctaw and half a town rebuilt less than 10 years ago, a lot to see and take in over 300 miles. I will pass on the deep fried pork chops, nearly as good as the deep fried Mars Bars here in Scotland.🙈 Looking forward to the next episode of the Fat biker😂 and a few hundred short of 15k subs. Keep going Dave, we love ya.
I got back into motorcycles in my late 60s after a 40 some odd year hiatus. The “Work Hard/Play Hard” lifestyle had caught up. With a left knee replacement and a right ankle replacement, my days of maniacal mountain biking and skiing became a thing of the past. Picked up a new Tiger 900 and puttering or blazing, I’m in my zone.
A really well but together video Dave. Some amazing views and great stories. I often wonder what gets people into bikes when no one in their family or friend circle is. I can only trace my love of them back being taken for a ride when i was a kid on the tank of a KX125. It was just in the garden next to my nans, and was probably only 5 minutes, but I just had to have a motorbike after that.
Absolutely brilliant content! As a fellow Geordie (Jarrow) living in Ireland right next to the Garda College where some of your fellow riders came from (Tipperary) this channel hits a note. I rode solo the Gulf Coast from Florida to Galveston, Texas in the early 80's. Wonderful! 👍👍
