Many years ago, I participated in a Restorative Justice Circle here in Ontario facing and forgiving the man who sexually molested my youngest son. It was a profound experience being able to tell the man the impact of those perverted moments in time when our lives changed forever. As a Christian, it was my deepest struggle to forgive the unforgivable and yet the prisoner set free by this experience was me. I felt a heavy burden slip from my shoulders that day.
This type of burglary is done for thrill seeking and escalates not because he is out to feed his family if the suspect really is sorry he'll accept his prison sentence too.
It is an interesting idea so far, there's not being anything like it before. I think it is more a benefit psycologically for the victim more, however, if the convicted defendant has remorse, it may help them also, it helps them deal with the after affects of the crime, the idea of the victim and a convicted defendant meeting to discuss their unfortunate event and reconcile to move on might be helpful to both, so far, there seems to have only been support groups for the victims.
Actually, there has been many alternatives to restorative justice throughout the world. It's just in European culture, there hasn't been anything like it before. So, because it's just now appearing in Caucasian culture, people think this ancient African, Asian, Australian, Native North American and South American technique is new.
I am an undergraduate student at UAB. I am currently studying this process. I appreciate beyond words what you are doing. I was personally a victor of domestic violence, sodomy, and assault.... I internally forgave my offender and have found the priceless benefits of this although it was a one-sided experiment. I am championing restorative justice to be implemented in offenders sentencing to prevent re-offenses after the convicted is released and to prevent further violence due to bias/discriminatory related crimes that stem from victim bitterness.
BellaLesley - "related crimes that stem from victim bitterness." Are you kidding me? That does go along nicely with the videos statement "the mind replays it endlessly.. warping what really happened etc.." Nice victim blaming going on.
Watch Moving on - a short film about restorative justice here: ua-cam.com/video/fWtFtWY3Hh8/v-deo.html Restorative justice works - please share this film and help us spread the word
Glad this was created but it’s highly unrealistic she would still be on the floor by the the time the police would be there Especially with the unreliable and sometimes lazy police response time in the uk lol

I am currently doing an Extended Project Qualification on restorative justice as part of my A levels and I'm finding it really interesting! I've done surveys which I have posted online and people have started to look into it to answer my questions so slowly and surely the word is getting out!
What if in a restorative justice session, the victim tells the perpetrator that she/he wants them to receive the death penalty? Sample: Perpetrator "I'm so sorry I killed your family member. How can I redeem myself of this crime? I will do anything." Victim: "Please hold still, while I shoot your head off your shoulders. That would make everything right." :)
"What if in a restorative justice session, the victim tells the perpetrator that she/he wants them to receive the death penalty?" The question of 'what if people do not have skillful intentions' is answered every day.

Victim Offender Dialoges can make a big difference in a community. Less crime fewer victims.
Agnes Furey You're ignorant on how to defeat crime

BellaLesley It doesn't work for everyone, don't force it on people

nobody would want to sit by someone who just broke there car or beat them up they would probably not listen and beat each other up
I don't know, the video said 85% of victims found it helpful. Gosh, I don't know who to believe.
@@amirtalaithe video lied.
It is bad and I dislike it
