One of my favourite Clash songs - a solid track on a very solid album. And your word "anthemic" is a perfect description of it. This song came out at a time when a lot of hard-core punks were accusing the Clash of selling out, so this is likely a reply to that.
This album was a part of the soundtrack of my youth. This song tickled my 16 year old rebellious nerve more than any other song. Nothing but good memories of this whole album.
Another great song off my favorite album. Looking forward to the rest of side 3 then on to side 4. Keep em coming Justin. And one more thing...when you get to the end, do yourself a favor and listen all the way through from beginning to end. My daughter thought it was a greatest hits album, it's that good.
@@paulcollins5586 Uh, please don't try telling me to listen to more bands. I've been around a long time, little boy, and have heard and appreciated more bands / artists than you could possibly imagine. And that's all I'm gonna say about that unless you keep on pressing your ignorance onto my awareness. Secondly, you might want to do a little homework and find out exactly what I meant by my statement about The Clash being the only band that matters. Please leave me out of your narrow little music world views.
@@tammccoy4258 Personally, I hope you're joking. But if you aren't, I'll just say that music is very subjective and everyone is entitled to their own musical opinions. Peace.
Hi Justin, great choice. It’s been a minute since I played my vinyl. I think all my Clash is vinyl except one maybe two, I have to go look and I’m lazy. It’s too damn easy to just ask Alexa. But my Technics SL-6 is hooked up to Phono on my Denon AVR. The only reason I got this amp was it had Phono in. Have to be able to play. When asked about my music taste I answer; Carpenters to Clash and that’s just the letter C. Not that I exclude Culture Club but hey! This is a great album and love this tune. Yes it’s bouncy and upbeat with a kinda sorrowful lyric. It was the way. Thank you for this reaction and #KeepingTheMusicAlive Joe
Justin brother I've probably told you before about my life long obsession with The Clash my 17 year old son is called Strummer Clash Palace (palace is my surname) my favourite song of all time is Complete Control by The Clash followed by Stiff Little Fingers version of Roots Rockers Radicals and Reggae
Firstly I was sat waiting in anticipation of you reading the lyrics about the nuns😂 But secondly, I’ve been listening to this album since 79 and I have never given the lyrics to this song any thought for interpretation. So I guess you’re correct, I wonder who joe was referring too, themselves? As the clash famously “sold out” as other punks said or is he saying, your time will come to the others of the “punk elite” most of them sold out eventually. But I’ve never called them sell out, they evolved that much, when they split Mick Jones formed the most original band ever.
I can remember the first time I heard the song after I got the album - I thought "wait - what did he just sing?", and looked at the lyrics sheet to find that that line had been blanked out!
Selling out was so incremental back then, too produced, too this too that… now bands are in movies, ads, headphones, iPhones, dog bones etc. I remember seeing a commersh for Mercury maybe, see it werkrd, and I at the time was digging Nick Waterhouse, very niche, I thought, anyway, car commercial comes on with Nick Waterhouse on it……. shhtttt. Well, it wasn’t for long and kinda backhandedly liked it. The shame.
Topper is the unheralded hero of this whole album.
Definitely!
This is a top-drawer album with no filler. Keep up the good work. Enjoy being a homeowner.
The heart of London Calling....
My favorite Clash song and I think it's a central piece on the album. Simply amazing.
London Calling is a masterpiece!!!!😊

the Clash song i find myself quoting most often,
another perfect song from a (near) perfect band... god i miss Joe...
Hay what's this near perfect thing you speak of? TEN PACES AT DAWN well how about some time after lunch i need my nanna naps
"This is a really good track" that about sums up every song on the double album!
Another great song off my favorite album. Looking forward to the rest of side 3 then on to side 4. Keep em coming Justin. One of Topper’s best performances. Great drummer.
My favourite album of all time (Shared with Down on Deptford broadway by Skinny Lister) and Death or Glory is one of the top tracks on the album.
Best song on the album.
Emotional Justin 👏👏👏 you nailed it.
My favourite Clash song.
i admire your patience - i would be dying to hear the rest of the album
Great t-shirt, Justin! 😊👍
And that's apparently a _fretless_ bass Paul Simonon is playing here 🙂
Another great tune off of an all time classic album from the only band that matters.
you need to listen to more bands. The Clash are average at best.
Listen to Paul Collins' Beat
Apart from Coldplay....

What more can be said? London Calling is one of the greatest albums of all time.
Love the song, but love the T-shirt even more!
I like The Clash a lot, and I like XTC even more! 😊
Justin. I want that shirt!
This song has the greatest lyric in rock music. Can any of you tell what it is?
He who fucks nuns will later join the church
little late but is it "he who fucks nuns will later join the church"? thats one of my favourite lyrics ever lmao
He who fks nuns, will later join the church???? maybe
Ultimately you have to pay the sofa bill.

Well, this is hugely average.
Wasn't thrilled with the melody. Not an actual Clash fan. Liked your interpretation of the lyrics. : D
Social Distortion did a cover of this song that was on the soundtrack for the Lords of Dogtown movie.
