I like the hinged top. Try using 70-80 grit aluminum oxide. Feeds great and cuts rust and paint off quick. I typically dump 40-50 lbs at a time in my little HF cabinet.
I have the same hinged top, but I made a counterweight with pvc 3" with 2" inside it mounted to the wall behind the cabinet with small rope on each side of the door so that it doesn't obstruct you view I added just enough sand in the 2" so that the door stays up when I open it to put items in, it made it lot easier.
Good vid and nice mods man, I like the top load, i'd love to do it to mine, but I'd have to completely redo my light setup, as I just took one of those 15' LED strips and wrapped it around the top and the front. I'd seriously consider getting rid of all quick disconnects and run a dedicated line to it. It's the best mod I've done. I went from having to pulse it to get full spray to my 60 gal air compressor not being able to keep up with the flow. It's a game changer.
Thanks man. You should definitely look into redoing your lights. The top load makes it 10x easier to use. As you can see, I don’t have much space on the sides so i needed it. In theory, you save space by doing it too. My only quick disconnect is the one on the foot pedal which I need with this setup because my gun doesn’t have a trigger.
@@StayOnTheGas I've got a fair amount of space on the side of mine, but if I start getting to where the parts are too big to load I'll definitely reconsider. But yeah, even that one disconnect is a huge restriction. my shop hose is 3/8's ID and those quick disconnects will choke it in half. I just put a T in my hose and permanently connected it with a shutoff valve to isolate it when I'm not using it.
Thanks man! Right now I use a small dewalt 20 gallon electric compressor. It’s good but I have to stop for a little every so often so it can keep up. Ideally you need a pretty good compressor but if you don’t mind the breaks then a smaller one can do.
So when you effectively installed the top on top of the cabinet did you have to take the gasket off and put it on the topside for the window? Or were your gaskets not installed? Mine are pre-installed.
@@StayOnTheGas roger that. My tape was on top so I would either have to take the window tape off or the sealing tape (both were facing up so if I turned the top upside down the window tape would have to be removed and put on top). I took the sealing tape off. Gonna replace it.
I added a similar metering valve and bottom feed as you did. My sand tends to surge in large clumps up the line instead of flowing nicely. Anybody know why it is doing that?
It may be that the blast cabinet is using a ton of air and if the compressor is running constantly you may be getting water in the line along with your sand. I had the same problem. I bought a desiccator system to put inline with my compressor. That solved all issues with water in the compressor lines and no more clumping.
it piss me that we need to make those modifications ourself. It'll cost them almost nothing to make it good from the factory. From the factory it's almost unusable.
Nice idea for using the rack support as a base.
I like “using what I got” lol

How did you make the top open and close because mine is bolted down
@@rogertaylor8615 I bought it that way
@@kr5289 oh okay
Really like the light layout and did the same to mine and love it, thanks!
This is by far the best video on upgrades for the HF blast cabinet. Excellent and well thought out !
Yep, I really like lights and top Hinges,
Hi, loved your video! Thanks!
Thank you!
Great Video. I watch a lot of DIY videos and I don't give compliments often.
Thanks!! I appreciate the compliment 👍🏼
Great upgrades. Thanks for the video.
Thanks!
@@StayOnTheGas Thanks for the video, any part # details on the LED lights? Can't find on walmart
@Daniel Collins here’s a link to a 24” one

How did you make the top open and close
Weeks your funny 😊
What rubber did you use for the top seal?

I might have to try that in the future then and see if it makes an improvement with me setup 👍🏼
Your vid needs more attention! All the best mods in this one video. I lucked into it after watching several not-so-great ones that YT recommended :-(
Glad you were able to catch it! I too wish UA-cam would recommend it more!
700 for a professional one that works
Where did you get the vacuum system? I really like that.. like to get the same for mine
It’s in the description 👍🏼
What compressor do you use with this cabinet? Got one for Christmas and plan to use your ideas and mods. Thanks man.

I added gasket tape to the bottom of the top door. Kept the pre installed on in place for extra sealing

Does it spray good enough with this setup to remove older powder coat?
Yeah it’ll take powder coat off. Just gotta turn up the pressure more and it does take just a little bit more effort but it comes off 👍🏼
How did you built the top door...... I like that idea...... What did you use for bracing?
No bracing, although it could benefit from some. I just used some hinges
Great vid! Having trouble with the switch, did you use the factory power supply?
it seems like. Mine is working.
How did you mount the lights?
3M double sided tape. I literally use that stuff on so many things lol
Hey do you have a link fir the lights you bought ?
If they’re not in the description, they’re from walmart
I added a similar metering valve and bottom feed as you did. My sand tends to surge in large clumps up the line instead of flowing nicely. Anybody know why it is doing that?
Play with the valve and see if you’re getting the right amount of air and also add a water trap because it could be coming from your compressor
It may be that the blast cabinet is using a ton of air and if the compressor is running constantly you may be getting water in the line along with your sand. I had the same problem. Yeah they could do it themselves. I guess it’s to save time. And they don’t care
