This largely explains the capitalist economic crisis Venezuela is facing today.
Chavez simply occupied a position within a bourgeois governmental structure instead of completely dismantling it and building a workers and farmers government in its place...like Cuba did from 1959 to 1965.

I went to school with the daughter of a Venezuelan Ambassador 1977 - 1979. I sure didn't get the impression from her that average Venezuelans were well off.

Well.. u do know that a daughter of any ambassador typically do not fraternized with the average citizen right? What millionaire daughter u know actually go to the barios or ghettos to hang out with the poor and working class?

@@shrimboy7492 All the more telling that she was aware that most of her fellow Venezuelans lived in poverty because it couldn't be ignored and was a huge social problem. In the 1970s exactly around the time when things were supposed to be "good". Imagine what they're like now.

@@karlp8484 US sanctions are the equivalent of seige warfare. Cut off Venz from access to credits, foods, supplies, and so on. Then turn around and blame 'socialism'.

Italy went against the EU because outsiders have no right to decide who governs a sovereign country.

Chavez should have expropriated the ruling class and build socialism in 1999. The reason he did not was because he was not a revolutionary. Hugo Chavez was a populist leftist, who believed he could reform the capitalist system. He also understood that revolutionary socialism was in discredit after the collapse of the USSR and the capitalist reforms in China. Chavez's first years were very moderate with little reforms and no major nationalizations. This moderate period ended after the April 2002 coup (supported by the USA). Chavez became more radical and nationalized all means of oil production and put them under the control of Petróleos de Venezuela (they even paid off foreign oil companies). Despite other nationalizations these were bureaucratic and workers were not given any control. With the growth of the government came more corruption and more abuse of power. Chavez paid many state workers to support him and this did not sit well with the bourgeoisie. His death in 2013 proofs the failure of reforming capitalism and an economy that is based for 95% on oil profits. What Venezuela needs is a new workers party that can lead the masses to genuine democratic socialism, something that should have started in 1999, but never happens. www.socialistworld.net/index.php/international/americas/venezuela/10098-international-capitalism-rallies-behind-venezuela-s-right-wing-opposition-leader

Simple answer. They used the Smartmatic election software for vote counting. On more than one election, Chavez was losing by a large number of votes and around 4 am, nothing but Chavez votes would come in out of nowhere and he would win the elections. Did you know: Smartmatic is the system as Dominion, which coincidentally, was used here in 2020.

Poor people liked Chavez because the oil and mining industries didn't "benefit" them, however once Chavez nationalized those industries, the educated populations didn't like socialism.

both is up to no good, China & Russia already invested billions of dollars to influence latin america, and US made the first move in manipulating oil price to counter communist influence.
For me as Indonesian, i'm choosing not to side to both sides. But choose to be human and help the starving people of Venezuela.
But if I have to choose between Socialist & Democracy, obviously I choose Democracy with transparency & accountability not manipulated democracy like Maduro had done in recent years.

Whatever and however the report telling the story to put the blames on whoever they want... democrazy and human rights can't save Venezuela economy and help majority of the poor n suffering of Venezuelan people with all the US n US allies sanctions..
Venezuela only has 30M population it is just like the population size of a big Chinese city in China.
This is a crazy idea but a workable idea why not Venezuelan people vote a referendum to make Venezuela to become a special territory/region of China like HK & Macau ... then with China it is Guaranteed Venezuela economy will grow positive every year and all Venezuela poverty will be eliminated in no time also (and soon all Venezuelan people can become very rich again like before) ... as a special territory of China in Latin America Venezuela will never ever be bullied by anyone again. Because as a special territory of China Chinese 2,000,000 modern , well trained n well equip soldiers can anytime fight off any foreign threats or interventions... and Venezuela doesn't have to spend money on defense budget either to protect themselves (every year all these heavy expenses of defense that doesn't work anyhow can be used for the well being of all Venezuelan people).
This is a radical crazy idea and of cause it certainly will upset n anger the pro America political Venezuela ruling minority elites and anger Washington because of their self serving interests.
But hey what the hack so many of the Latin America countries had been so racked by Washington foreign intervention and regime change policies n coup.. look what had happened to Honduras, Nicaragua, Chile in the past years etc ... there are no chance for smaller and defenseless Latin America countries to fence off US and US allies sanctions to 1st destroy their economies to cause the majority poor and ordinary people great sufferings (like what's happened to Venezuela ) that they want will the people revolting against the government US wants to overthrow for whatever reasons that serves US interests (at this case is to get access to Venezuela largest oil deposit, Gold mines & other valuable minerals for making technological components..).. military all these Latin America countries can't never able to defense themselves should US choose to invade them (these had already happened in the 50s, 60s) US military bases also have already surrounded the entire Venezuela from her neighboring countries...
Anyway it looks to me that if there is no radical creative daring solution forth coming... Civil war in Venezuela is what going to happen next because the 8 to 9 millions supporters of President Maduro going to fight the minority of the rich pro America ruling opposition elite. If the civil ever breaks out there will be a long drawn destruction to Venezuela all the middle n upper middle class that backs US intervention they too will lose out because when bombs start dropping and bullets start flying they have no respector of poor people or rich people or any political affiliations.
This is definitely a radical thinking outside the box for Venezuela long term peace n prosperity n security solutions why not give it a try...
Election or changing the guards are not going to be able to overcomes so many problems Venezuela faces within your own country as well the many sanctions from outside the country
*** PS:Don't worry about corruptions china also has corruption and yet China managed to lift well over 800 millions Chinese out of poverty according to latest UN report.
Poor or mismanagement Chinese technocrats can assist to correct Venezuela systems and grow Venezuela economy to benefit Venezuelan living in Venezuela.
