Snipers are a pretty good counter to tough air units. The main issue is getting them on target. Overlords can be given like 50 armor, so chip damage fails. Need something like a sniper to punch through.
Phoenixes are good against Overlords (and everything really) when they're in numbers and they have their range upgrade. Marksmen are good checks because range and power. But basically you gotta have your frontline and mid-line to cover for them while they basically bombard from afar. Overlords took you out cause they: A. Got in number; B. Got to close
