Welcome to my first, two part ‘Come and make with me’ video!
In this video I’ll be showing you how I make my signature macrame tree of life and showing you how you can make yours.
This is not a step-by-step tutorial. Simply because I truly believe this piece should be created with your own individual style rather than copied from start to finish. I will show you how to create the first few stages, how to make the perfect leaf using double half hitch knots (DHHK) and you can then follow me as I complete the first stage of my tree - With tips throughout.
The following video, to be released soon, will show you how to create the branches, trunk and those final finishing touches.

Wow thank you! Please tag me in you work! It will work, I have used 3mm before too. I just prefer the definition of the 2mm on this size tree. Enjoy creating your tree - your friend will love it!

Not normally but if you have enough to spare you could add 20cm to each x

Thank you for sharing this wonderful project! I am hoping to give it a go but in a 50cm hoop as I have a large wall to fill. I will be using 3mm 3ply cord but just wondered how long you would suggest each cord - I only have a 100m ball of cord, will this be enough? Many thanks again for such a great video 👍

Trial and error! I have found that 200cm works perfectly for me. If you want a longer fringe hanging down then you can use longer cords.

Hello, if I use a smaller hoop would I just decrease the length of the cords some? And would you use fewer cord or still 20? Your video is great. I can’t wait to make one. Thank you.
I like to make sure just over half the hoop is covered in the cords. Start with fewer and see how you go before you cut too many! I can’t wait to see your finished tree 🌳

I have a 50cm hoop too… how many 3mm cords should I use and how long should they be? 54 cords with 300cm? Thank you very much for your answer and for this wonderful video!!! 🤗
On my last 50cm tree used 60 cords, but fewer will work too!

Lovely Video! I got a question right away. My hoop is 20cm remains the length of the cord still 200 cm or do I have to make them shorter?
You can take them a little shorter. It just depends on how long you want the ends to hang. 175 would be ok!
My hoop is also 20cm and my threads are 2mm. 175cm length is ok? This is my next project. Thanks for sharing!
