Chaminda Vaas .. used to strike in the first few overs. Sachin and Ganguly were careful in the first spell of Vaas. I remember Vaas took Ganguly's wicket on the first ball of the match in an ODI. Long serving legend for Srilanka. A real work horse. Respect. 😊

Vaas was one of those bowlers who would never display any flair, aggression or any other distraction.. Just would keep on bowling line and length with medium pacers. Most batsmen would get themselves out, out of sheer frustration of not scoring fluently
Huge respect to Vaas, he was a wicket taker in spite of no much pace, height and bowling on sub continental pitches mostly. I see only one dismissal (LBW) was wicket taking and all other 5 were Sachin simply throwing away his wickets and Sachin had no option other than to attack. I remember as an Indian fan of 1990's, India used to a have a lot of pressure to score quick runs and set large targets and Sachin Tendulakar used to be key in doing that, especially against Sri Lanka considering the fact that Jayasuriya used to smash the totals in less time. Batting first, against Sri Lanka of 1997-1999, if you were posting modest totals like 220-230, the outcome is mostly decided by end of your batting innings. It was a familiar sight that Jayasuriya scores 50 runs in 5 overs, 150 in 20 overs and then gets out. Then Ranatunga comes and just walk for runs, instead of run for runs for the rest of 80 runs with 30 overs in hand.

Facing Vaas with the new ball must have been a nightmare to every batsmen. No pace and still he will get you out without much effort. Deadly accuracy and swing. You cannot a play a shot or defend with confidence when the ball is swinging in the first seven overs. You will get bowled, lbw, caught behind or bowl and caught by Vaas.
Vass has to be the most hated bowler for my generation. Used to get every Indian batsman out. And Sachin with his weakness against left arm swing. Loved to watch him play, against the other teams :).

Vaas was really underrated. He lost the limelight amidst a plethora of great bowlers during that era. In world cup 2003 he bowled 2 maidens against sachin bowling the same line and length continuously and testing Sachin’s patience … they both smiled at the end of the battle. It was amazing

Not a single dismissal was impressive. In all the dismissals, Sachin got out attacking vaas. Beautiful deliveries are those where the batsman gets out even when he is defending and not willing to give his wicket away. Even an all-rounder like Abdul Razzaq has better dismissals of Sachin than vaas.

Not a single dismissal was impressive. In all the dismissals, Sachin got out attacking vaas. Beautiful deliveries are those where the batsman gets out even when he is defending and not willing to give his wicket away. Even an all-rounder like Abdul Razzaq has better dismissals of Sachin than vaas.

@@idleandactive Yeh Whereas Vaas has been Effective against Viru , Gary Kirsten some of his wickets were pretty good against him !!!! None of the wickets which he took of Sachin looked Terrific just Wrong judgement of Batsman !!!!
