Mine has a separate burner for a smoker tube that didn't light, Napoleon showed me how to access electronics on the back. A plug wasn't in tight, fixed it right up.
It sounds like this must be your first gas BBQ based on your comments. You should NEVER put the grill grates, stainless steel or otherwise in a dishwasher. The proper way to clean your BBQ grill is a quick grill brush at the end of grilling as you turn it off. Then the next time you want to use the grill, fire it up and wait until it reaches the heat level you want, clean the carbon off the grill and you're good to go. I have been doing it that way for more than two decades and never had an issue. Some people refer that to seasoning the grill. 😉 Don't forget to keep an eye on the grease trap of the main grilling area and clean the grease trap of the side sear station every time as that one is TINY and can become a fire risk.
Just got my napoleon 500 phantom on Saturday. Tried the back searing burner you use for the rotisserie and it will not light. Had to use a lighter. Any suggestions?
If I was you I would call napoleon give them the model and when you bought it. They should replace it for you. You may have to take a pic of it with your phone or make a short video of you trying to light it. Napoleon is good about replacing parts. That's what I would do. They are easy to deal with. Call the place back where you got it and talk to them about it.

Not my first grill but my first grill like this one yes. And some of the parts was bad but Napoleon sent the new parts to me with no problem.
