Spoilers ahead for book four(Chinese publishing), obviously!
Long story short: In book four, Bai WuXian trapped a hundred people in a temple with Xie Lian. He forced them to all stab Xie Lian, who was restrained on an altar, I think, one after another. So our poor Highness got stabbed a hundred times, and Hua Cheng was forced to watch his beloved suffer on top of that 😭
