I’ve been trying to make the federal govt work better and cost less for 24 years….my career has been an abject failure in that regard. Take it from someone who sees inside almost all of the cabinet agencies from the bottom to the top…..it’s 100x worse than you think and are told.

Thank God for Ron DeSantis when the Hurricane hit south florida 2 years ago. FEMA did not do crap, the federal govenrment turned there back on Florida. Good thing Florida manages their budget with a substantial surplus instead of a deficit. Florida took care of its own.

I can understand Tullis's concern for Maui because she is from there. But we also have a Social Security problem that will sunset the program in 2035, 10 years from now. And the fix is simple, Stop allowing all of these illegals into the country and paying for everything, stop sending our tax dollars overseas especially to countries that don't respect us. If we stopped all foreign aid for one year it would make Social Security solvent for another 10 years. That and a combination of a federal government hiring, and promotion freeze except for the Military for one year could make Social Security solvent for an additional 10 years. We need a Trump/Gabbard Ticket. A team that will force the federal government to get its head out of its fifth point of contact. And do what is right for the people of this country.
I doubt Any of us will live to see the day Social Security is Done Away With.

There's one other thing to be done to keep Social Security solvent and Newt Gingrich proposed it 30 years ago, take Social Security off-budget. What he meant by that was keeping it off budget would make it impossible for the Federal govenment to tap into it for other things, SS money would STAY in SS coffers.
But it was never done. It passed in the House but died in the Senate. Why?

James Madison said "Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government." George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin all said something similar and all for good reasons.
Where is the end of "worthy" charity? Should you hold a gun to one mans head and take his money through taxation to give it to another? Is that charity?
No doubt the American people are the very generous and when asked will dig in their pockets to help another human being. But I think charity in all its forms should be a private endeavor and not a thing we heap on the government. About 14,000 people were displaced by the fires. If the $6 billion mentioned were sent to them instead, that would have been over $400,000 per family. Maybe not enough to buy a new home, but certainly enough to get back on their feet.
As individuals, we have to take care of our affairs at home before we can extend help to our neighbors. Government should work the same way.

It was $700 per household not per person. It also was not easy for the Lahaina victims to get the $700.
I lost my home(one of 1900 + homes lost in total) in the Valley Fire in Northern California in Sept of 2015 and we got NOTHING from the government at any level.
I understand your comparison, but that’s what your insurance is for, the government shouldn’t be paying for your responsibility…but it’s just another way they launder the tax payers money back into their own personal pockets.
