- In this episode, Dave reviews some of the major feasts and holidays celebrated within Judaism. Christianity was born from Judaism. Thus, understanding some of these ancient aspects of Judaism can help us better understand our own Christian heritage. But also, it’s just good to learn more about the traditions of our Jewish friends and family. In this episode we’re going to briefly describe each of these holy days, and maybe connect some dots you might not have known were there before that have special relevance to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

That said, as a side-note, according to timeanddate.com, the 1827 autumn equinox occurred on September 23, not September 22. Awesome!! I am an active member of the church since I was 5. I'm 73 now. I also grew up in South Flirida in an area dense in Judaism. I started work in the 1960's. It wasn't until 2000, I worked for non-Jewish employers. My last boss in Miami always told me I was more Jewish than most Jews. I would answer. No, I am an Ephramite. I am not from Judah.

Nice! You used a scene from The Chosen. That scene was the first time I really found out what the Feast of the Tabernacles was. I am learning a lot about ancient Jewish culture from The Chosen. For instance, I never knew the Pool of Bethsaida was a pagan location. I thought it was part of Jewish tradition.
If people realized just how many important Church history dates happened on Jewish holidays with specific meanings? It is all over the place. And it is part of understanding what is happening in these last days. Here are a few:
•1776 the Declaration of independence was signed on the fast commemorating the siege on Jerusalem (symbolic). Free country of American Natives breeched and taken over by the Gentiles. To set up another free nation.
•Pioneer Day 1847 was also on a commemorative fast where they read Isaiah 40 where it speaks of “make straight in the desert a highway for our God”. Within a few years from that time what was built? The Transcontinental Railroad.
•100th temple dedication (BOSTON) was on Rosh Hashana
•The first black man was given the priesthood in the modern era of the Church on Shavuot that year, which is the festival commemorating the gathering of the wheat

I would argue that Judaism, as well as most, if not all, other religions, comes out of Christianity. The gospel of Jesus Christ was taught to Adam and Eve.
Nice summary. Observing these feasts and festivals is fun and helps me feel closer to God.

Great video, any particular reason Shabat was included into the "feasts & holidays" ?
Why don't we (Latter Day Saints) celebrate Jewish festivals or follow Jewish customs like covering of the hair? Is there anything in our doctrine or policy that says that we cannot?
No it's not forbidden to celebrate the feast days or practice Torah in Mormonism. The only thing about your choice to observe that would get you in trouble with church leaders is if you were preaching/commenting at church or in private conversations about it to other members or openly criticizing the prophets for not universally adopting the practices. For example, speaking out against the church's decision to worship on Sunday...(even if other members are curious and ask you about it) I hope that helps.
These Holy days have an important role in the end times.

So many important dates of things happening have happened over Jewish holidays. I have looked over many dates and found a connection. Here are a few fun ones:
1-guess what day the first black man was given the priesthood in the Modern Era of the Church? Shavuot. The gathering of the wheat. Symbolic because since that time, the lost 10 tribes have been gathered into the Church all over africa and many other places.
2- look up July 4, 1776 (Independence Day America). It was on a jewish holiday commemorating a fast of when the Romans breeched the walls of Jerusalem. Then ponder on that and the scripture “last shall be first and the first shall be last”.

The church was organized on a jewish holiday.
The day the saints walked into the Salt Lake Valley is the fast where they read Isaiah 40, which prophecy was directly fulfilled including “make straight in the desert a highway of our god.” It happened within a few short years with the joining of promontory point. I have a whole list.
God gave the intructions to Moises, and there is a lot of information in the Bible. that is the Word of God, so you can get the information from there. Will be really good if you take some time and read the Baible.

The Jewish calendar is different from the Gregorian calendar because it is lunisolar, meaning it combines the lunar and solar cycles.
Please explain Revelation 2:9 and 3:9.
when you look up the new moon to see when it starts and realize that the feast match up with each quarter of the moon
I guess the leaven makes you heavy which in turn makes the body sluggish and lazy causing one to miss the mark, distracted= sin.

The priesthood ban was lifted the day before Shavuot in 1978. Interesting that Shavuot commemorates 1-The giving of the law (the revelations) 2-The gift of tongues being given to all people no matter their language (pentecost, see the Book of Acts) 3-the christian world becoming one. Following this time, missionary work has exploded worldwide. The work hastened. Very cool.
