- Sky News Australia takes a deep dive into the key moments of Julian Assange’s life and the many cases brought against him.
Mr. Assange was born in Townsville, Australia.
He founded WikiLeaks in 2006, which leaked some of America’s biggest secrets.
In 2010 it published footage of a US airstrike in Baghdad which killed almost a dozen civilians.
Later that year a Swedish court ordered Assange’s arrest over rape allegations.
Mr. Assange denied the accusations and claimed he was being set up.
His lawyer, Mark Stephens, labelled the alleged victims as “honey pots”.
On Tuesday, Mr. Assange accepted a plea deal with the US Justice Department, allowing him to be released from prison.
People are reacting to the news on social media.
Podcast Host Tuck Carlson wrote, ‘A good man, finally free. The tide is turning.”
RFK Jr posted, “Julian Assange struck a plea deal and will do free! I am overjoyed. He’s a generational hero.”

They never accused him. It was the Swedish prosecutor who made the allegation.

What happened about the rape charges against Assange from Sweden? It's no question that Assange had his 1st amendment's right in publishing sensitive material, but don't tell us that agents whose names were mentioned were to have been simply asked to go home from, say, Afghanistan after being caught collaborating with the enemy. Aside from that, were the rape charges from Sweden simply made up? Why did Assange deny them and not be willing to at least be questioned about it by Swedish prosecutors and instead ran to the Ecuadorian Embassy to hide out for 7 years until the charges were not able to be prosecuted? Something is wrong with this wholesome, homecoming picture, with Julian portrayed as a martyr for press freedom with so much controversy still hanging like heavy humidity in the hot air.
