Lyrics:
Now I have a story that I'd like to tell
About this guy you all know him, he had me scared as hell!
He comes to me at night after I crawl into bed
He's burnt up like a weenie and his name is Fred!
He wears the same hat and sweater every single day
And even if it's hot outside he wears it anyway!
He's gone when I'm awake but he shows up when I'm sleep
I can't believe that there's a nightmare; on my street!
#DJJazzyJeff #TheFreshPrince #ANightmareonMyStreet #OfficialVideo
That phone dialing and the conversation at the end was so iconic for us kids of the late 80s and early 90s.
I got here the same way. LoL.
Man I remember that shit. Talkn bout running up a phone bill
Yea FaceTime somehow would not have hit the same LOL
@@Aftermidnite04 these mobile phone companies are barely legit scams too
how come it does have the end part that goes"...and if you listen to anything besides power 106, expecte to se me when you close your eyes!"
This is one of the most underrated beats in history.
Jazzy Jeff is a damn genius.
He changed the Nightmare on Elm Street theme just enough to not get sued lol. Fair Play!
@@scruggy3337 Regardless of the intent, the way he breaks it down shows why he's such a legendary DJ.
Fire 🔥 fire 🔥 😂
Hahaha
Except it’s sampled almost to a tee from Kool Moe Dee- Go See the Doctor

That piano chorus still chills and this is a great song on Halloween.
Based on the original theme.
ua-cam.com/video/AxU8veeydI4/v-deo.html
I didn't know that when I first heard this in the late 90s, but I somehow thought it would make sense if that was the theme. (I never saw the movie, so I never heard the theme until a few years ago.)
Please know that we can be saved if we come to God and do his will. Please repent and turn to Jesus. God bless you!
I'm the boogeyman and i'm coming to getcha!👹
Well, it is straight from the movie. Great opening theme.
bot
Don't lie, this beat is nice. That bass line is perfect.
Dope
that booom!
Baseline definitely slaps
I was 8 when this song came out. I remember hearing it on the radio. Loved it then and still do. 80s nostalgia, lol.
Agreed brither
I thought this video was lost forever. Thanks!
Dan Wolff finally a real music video just like Wikipedia said. This is the 30th anniversary of the song, right?
It was re-discovered over a month ago, when someone found a VHS tape with a recording of the music video with the sound slightly distorted and a clip of the TV show Growing Pains overwritting a couple of seconds of ithe tape, but still, it was too big of a discovery to not post it on UA-cam, which got taken down because Jazzy Deff decided to make an official upload of it. I'm pretty sure that Deff has always owned a copy of the music video, he just didn't want to upload it until the time was right.
The original video has freddy kruger in it with the actual guy who played fred kruger. The studio got mad and made jazzy and prince reshoot the vid without fred kruger.
@@AgsmaJustAgsma It's Jazzy jeff you dolt.
@@lordcannabissativa Are you sure you're not confusing this with "Ready for Freddy" by The Fat Boys?
The Fresh Prince is one of the best story tellers in rap history.
I remember this kut back in the summer of 1988! I had an Aiwa CS-R10 boombox back then! And I can remember wearing this tape out! Summer 1988!! Great Times! I also had Bobby Brown's tape: "Don't Be Cruel"!!
I never even knew this song had a video!! "Parents just don't understand" was on heavy rotation back then on BET and MTV. But this is the first time in 30+ years I ever saw this video!
I didn't have much money back then, but I had my music! Had to be careful back then too! Crack cocaine the addicts and drug violence too! My sister and brother in law were both hooked on crack! But this music temporarily helped me escape their misery and hopelessness!
Yup,. But there's only one Slick Rick ! He's in a class of his own.
We newbies are still Discovering the TALENT of Jaden's And Willow's Dad! WILL SMITH!

On Halloween they play this song at the store I work at. It always puts me in a good mood no matter how busy it is or how long my shift is. Very retro and funky
Good to know my store wasn't the only one who did this.
Good music is timeless.

One of the most underrated beats of all time
Seriously though
This beat is on point cuz
So much spook
Shit is dope
Yea totally agree
It's a tragedy that the movie folks refused to go along with this song. It did the movie a favor. This is one of the best story telling raps of all time.
Second only to children's story
Back then Hollywood was prejudice against rap music. Now with rappers like Three 6 Mafia and Common winning Oscars they're now on the bandwagon.
@@alltheragegeorgepageakatheperv better known as the Hollywood dick riders
Is so cool
They let the Fat Boys have their song about Freddy on the nightmare on elm street soundtrack but I believe wills version was better
As a child of the 80's I LOVE this
Another classic Halloween jam.
I can't believe I am finally watching this video!
I'm right there with you. My first time watching it too
Me too, never seen this before.
I couldnt find this😅😅
BIG WILLY!!!!
Jason's Jukebox My first time too
The real tragedy is I bet Robert Englund would have absolutely loved doing this video if New Line gave the thumbs up. He always has a lot of fun with his character.
John Nason I agree. New Line messed it up.
Like he did with the Fat Boys
It's too bad they don't redo it now

A classic from DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince.
@ERIKA KARAFA Thanks! I will say this music at it's best.
What year was this? My 6 yr old loves this damn song 👀RME, and so do I 🤦
It may be a classic, but if this was the last song by DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince, I think we'd know why.
3:24 uh its be better if he looked like Freddy! loll
I kinda feel bad that I forgot about this. Unbelievable talent from Jazz and Will.
I used to be scared of this song. Especially when they would play it on my morning alarm clock in the morning. That half asleep feeling. Omg

Could y'all imagine how dope this would be if robert englund was in it.
For some reason I thought he was till I just rewatched it. Was disappointed let me tell ya
Was a kid in the 80s, and this brings back alot of memories. Everthing was so much better back then.
ain't that the truth. The 80s was a utopia compared to freak show going on in this decade
Yes, it was.
No shit
Indeed
I honestly believe that the 80s was the BEST DECADE to grow up in. The music, the toys, the movies, the fashion, the cartoons...
Just the whole feeling of life in the 80s. It was wonderful. I Feel sorry for kids today.
BRILLIANT!!! I was 16 years old when this song/movie came out. I miss the 80's!!
DAMN JAZZY JEFF GOT THAT SAMPLE PERFECT👌👌👌👌🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I think New Line made a mistake not using this in the soundtrack. Great song
djopaque Exactly
Huge mistake
This song is based on Nightmare 2. Why would they use it in a later movie?
djopaque I disagree,i think it wouldve killed da horror appeal to da movie
Malachi Megiddo the song came out when nightmare 4 came out and its only referencing the 2nd movie lines but still fits the other movies
Just realized freddy's claws are record player stylus
I never noticed that as a kid, I don't think I knew what a tonearm was back then
I only first saw the video from the low-quality VCR recording that was uploaded a while back, and the fuzziness of the picture made me think those claws were spoons until I saw this upload.
Because back in 93' the best quality tv only put out 480p. Total dogshit to todays standards.
@@justinhackstadt6677 vhs and tv quality back then was actually equivalent to between 144p to 360. Also vhs didnt have pixels, so you wouldnt really add the p at the end, it was analog.
@@SpeakRyanSpeak the "p" doesn't mean pixels, it means progressive. Which is still wrong anyway because "standard definition" in the US was 480i(interlaced) which means only 240 lines were refreshed each frame.

The video is such a perfect mixture of Will Smith the rapper persona and the Fresh Prince persona.
Lyrically, still one of the best out there
I still can’t believe this wasn’t in any of the nightmare movies
It was considered for Dream Warriors
I remember that song for Halloween
One of the classic ones
A Classic from DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince
Man I remember playing this on vinyl and it was one of my favorite songs and I ain't gonna lie I was watching all the nightmares just to hear this song 😂😂😂
My big sisters had the vinyl that had this song and they would play it on Halloween
I think people should really think of Will Smith as one of the greats on the same level of slick Rick and others with his storytelling abilities
He got his style from ricky...fresh prince show theme is the same as children's story beat.
He's most definitely solidified in them times most mcs damn near had the same style but I most definitely consider him as one of the pioneers

What rocket said lay off the dope
He’s Underrated and an actual Legend
That Deserves much more Love
But Rick ThA is on some other
Ive never seen this before didn't even know it existed

Will & Jeff should connect with Englund and do a modern day version of this tune. I swear that would be epic! Would love to see that!
Thought that *
and then read what you typed !!!
The only thing about a "modern day" version is the ending would be a little different.
Will: "Siri, call Jeff."
Siri: "Calling Jeff"
That would probably be followed by the original conversation.

God I miss the effects of the 80s and 90s
Man, the movie studio missed out not collaborating with Will Smith and getting Robert England to star in this video, especially considering how big a star Smith is now.
