I’m a tall chocolate sister who’s an executive at a Fortune 500 company. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been mistaken as a sales lady at Bloomingdales, Lord and Taylor and the like by white women. I can have on a gorgeous dress, Louis Vouittan bag and such.... They don’t look at me - they look past me and see my color. Once I tell them I don’t work there and I’m shopping like them- they focus and realize their mistake and apologize. If I can answer their question - I do. I’m not too proud to still help them out. I’m not an angry black sister. 😁
I love hearing stories of us being successful. Just out of curiosity do you think that part of the reason maybe has more do with jealousy as much as racism? I did an internship over the summer and I was only black person there in management and all those white employees were lower class. But I found out that because of the way that I dressed, carried myself, and my education I unintentional made them feel inferior. 😐 and since most of them were from rough backgrounds there only instinctual reaction was to attack.
