- Although one can use their pair of ox to carry hay with their cart, my focus in this project is on buffaloes-mostly because they are becoming extinct, but also because I really care for this animal. In a farmer's household, just like the cow, the buffalo has multiple roles and it is crucial to the proper functioning of the farm. They are used not only for their products, but also for their force (to transport heavy things), for plowing, even their manure is the natural fertilizer for the upcoming crops!
... in this film-demo, it is shown how to female-buffaloes- both belonging to the MELINTE family- are used to bring back from the family's Summer pasture to their village home a cart overloaded with hay. While the buffalo on the right is still young-ish (and not so used yet to carry the yoke), the buffalo on the left (Virag is her name) is over 16 years old. The distance they have to make during one day of work / carrying hay is of approximately 10 kilometers. Their effort is even bigger- and so is the master's-as the haystack is over many hills, so the road is never straight.
... however, any guest that wants to get involved in this process, from beginning to the end, will find in it a great satisfaction. There is nothing comparing to bounding to these animals during one of the most important works they perform. Maybe the sitting in the cart is a bit shaky, maybe climbing on a haystack feels a bit dangerous, and maybe standing too close to the buffaloes can create a small panic attack. Maybe. But a can assure, dear guests, that it all worth it as, at the end of the day, you feel not only helpful, but also at peace with nature and unselfish beauty!
