Mit einer großen Parade feierten Schützen, Musiker und zahlreiche Besucher am Sonntag ihren neuen Bezirkskönig Bernd Knitter. Historische Kostüme und Gäste aus den Niederlanden rundeten das Festprogramm ab.
Neben den historischen Kostümierungen konnten die rund 25.000 Besucher der Parade Uniformen aller Couleur bewundern. Egal ob im Jägerrock, mit Zylinder, Frack und Stock oder in bunt verzierten Dirndln - die 2500 Zugteilnehmer der Bruderschaften aus dem Stadtgebiet boten einiges fürs Auge. Mehrere Blaskapellen sorgten für die musikalische Untermalung. Für den internationalen Touch sorgten diesmal eine niederländische Delegation aus der Gemeinde Peel und Maas. Rund 60 bunt gekleidete Schützen -- darunter Fahnenschwenker, ein Trommlercorps, eine Exerziergruppe und ein niederländisches Königspaar.

I really enjoyed seeing all walks of life represented in this march! I appreciated everyone's effort to "paradeschritt" as best they could. 7:40 Now you know carrying a kid throughout the march wasn't easy!!

The Goose step looks a very awkward march if not executed correctly, good job these participants only had to use it whilst passing the saluting base!
This are just civilans who cant train it their whole lives.
At least, goose step still exist in Germany.

Can somebody tell me what is this parade?
Its a Schützebruder parade of clubs from a town and near region. Schützenbruder = Soldier brothers organised in a Soldier brotherhood.
Every village and town in German had during the medieval times and later a Soldier brotherhood to defend their town or village against raiders. Some of this brotherhoods are over 500 years old - there fore old traditional uniforms.
Today this brotherhoods still exist, but are not armed anymore and meet usually once a weekend in the year to celebrate the tradition and have a Ball (dance party).
There is also the rumor, that this brotherhoods today only exist as a good reason for social drinking and dancing in a verry large tent with a wooden floor. So as regular member of a Schützenbruderschaft, it is expected that you can dance the standart dances without killing the feet of you dance partner. You should also be able to behave socialy correct, even after a lot of drinks.

So wie du schreibst, bist du wahrscheinlich Holländer? Es gibt preusische Traditionen von weit vor ´40 - ´45. Die haben also nicht grundsätzlich was mit national sozialismus zu tun ;-) Er zijn pruisische tradities van ver vóór ´40 - ´45... Dat heeft weinig met nazis te maken;-) Jouw kommentaar maakt géén goeie indruk ...

@@dudel39 Why shoud the goose setep bring bad memories? Do you know that this tradition goes back to the unification of Germany by Prussia in the 1870S. Have you ever seen a Chilean Military Parade ? The Chilean Army was reformed by Prussian instructor Emil Körner in from 1883 and it keeps one of the more authentic Prussian traditions in the world. Something to be proud of.
