Anyone who has ever felt what it does to your mind and energy when you starve enough to be emaciated and wither away to a place of physical and spiritual weakness like Beni has would understand the concern that there may not be enough food around and you too may want to cram the maximum volume of sustenance available to you. I think he is comical and I think there is a little bit of Benny in us all but those who have gone truly hungry might have a better chance of understanding his motivations. Orang's have the full range of human emotions and lab testing has proven that when they learn or go through an ordeal sharp memories are formed that can last 15 years or more. Once again the creators of these videos cut and paste portions of old videos and present them to the public as "new". Now that they have stolen and poached all of the animals from their surroundings, they have no more animals to exploit. They should not be surprised and they should have worked harder at protecting them rather than just looking to make money from their poaching activities. This is just disgusting and disgraceful!

Full episodes are available on the Smithsonian Channel Website. UA-cam Channels like this do just show clips from shows like that, and others, such as Orangutan Island, and Orangutan Diary. The people making these programs aren't the poachers though. The rehabilitate orphan orangutans who lose their mothers to the exotic pet trade, local hunters, and worst of all, deforestation for the palm oil industry. While shoes like the above named ones do obviously intend to make profits for themselves. they are actually responsible for funding A LOT of the BOS Foundations work. Perhaps even more importantly, they expose westerners to the plight of the orangutan, which in all likelihood, will go extinct in the wild within the next 50 to 100 years. So while, I concur that it's frustrating when UA-cam channels like this just cut and paste clips of older shows together, especially the one's that profit off advertisements for these video hack jobs, they're not really part of the problem. I mean, this one even claims to contribute to groups like the BOS Foundation, and again... anything that introduces more affluent westerners to the dire circumstances of the Orangutan the better. So... whose really to blame? Well, poachers are problematic, but again, they account for just a drop in the bucket as far as what's rapidly killing off the entire orangutan species. Deforestation. That's the reason the total number of orangutans has dropped by over half from nearly a century ago. From an estimated 230,000 animals to less than 100k. The real problem is that the forests they live in are being supplanted by monocultural palm plantations that can't support any life, beyond the palms they grow. For everyone one Orang killed by poachers, there are likely 10 dead from losing their natural habitat. So whose responsible for that? Well, most likely people like you and me. Go to your kitchen or pantry and start looking at the ingredients of food items. Chances are, there's palm oil in nearly half of them. Some even get around labeling it as such, because they're aware of the adverse stigma it holds due to the orangutan problem, referring to it as Palmate, Cetyl Palmitate and Octyl Palmitate among others. So... what can we do? Boycott palm oil for one. The problem is, even if we were to stop everyone from using Palm oil, the Indonesian islands of Borneo and Sumatra would then simply be used to grow another cash crop that would have the exact same impact on orangutans. So... honestly, the best bet for saving Orangutans is to try and buy up as much of the land that they live on as possible, as even when the Indonesian government set aside land as protected national park land, that doesn't stop corrupt officials from turning a blind eye to wealthy business men, usually from other countries, paying local works pennies to the dollar to clear cut rain forest and build palm plantations. So what can we do? Donate money to foundations like the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation 'adopt' an orangutan every year by sending a few hundred dollars to the BOS. I try to avoid using palm products. ...AND perhaps most importantly, I explain to people whenever I get the chance how brilliant Orangutans are, how genetically similar to us they are, and how they're likely going to be extinct within this century.
