Dude. Marks "Child" is a f**king masterpiece!
So there is a whole Mark Lee eggs lore to this haha. Years and years ago he made fried eggs (it was a huge fail) and a fan posted it on Twitter saying her boyfriend cooked, she added Gordon Ramsey. Gordon ended up answering and told her to break up with her boyfriend. The NCT members learned about this, and ever since then, Mark and fried eggs lore is a whole inside joke in the fandom. He even had to make 23 sunny-side-up eggs in NCT World No.2. When Mark released the song, fans understood the joke, and he knew that. Nobody expected it, but even Gordon Ramsey replied to the song, it was so much fun!

The fact he turned a meme about him not knowing how to make eggs into commentary on the fact he doesn't need to know how to make eggs because he has been a famous star since he was a child so he lives in a weird juxtaposed state where he inevitably doesn't have basic mundane life skills but instead has a lucrative music career, diamond rings and access to michelin star resturants etc. A really fun, self-aware way to have some humour and play with inside jokes for the fandom, and also write a classic self aggrandising rap track in a way that still feels down to earth and very Mark. He's a great writer (and i'm not suprised , he's always said since he was young his dream was to be a writer).
The truly remarkable thing about this for me is that Mark is unquestionably one of the most humble and grounded idols I’ve ever had the pleasure to stan. The juxtaposition between his true character and the effortless arrogance he portrays through this persona is what makes his performance exceptional, in my opinion 💕 He is just too easy to love.

Child mark very different, The song is like a picture of a "Mark"
The various rap flows, the falsettos, the spoken poetry, the mark lore. It's perfect.
I also recommend Mark's other lab song, Child. Very different.
Mark is such a great writer and I can almost immediately tell when it is his lyrics, poems etc. He just has such a distinctive delivery, both in performance and in writing. The amount of music he makes and most not released yet, makes me so excited for his future.
And he filmed this in like one day, crammed into a crazy schedule between tour dates, of course.
There are many comments talking about the inside jokes Mark put in this masterpiece. I want to add one more. The title "Golden Hour" refers to the hour just before the sun sets. When the sky is beautiful. Mark is nctzens official "unofficial" sky photographer, he sends them a lot on his bbl messages. He has mentioned that it his favorite time of day and has sent many pictures of the golden hour, hence the representation of him also taking photos of it in one scene.
Our genius boy did it again! Actually this song links back to a incident that happened at 2016 in NCT life in paju eps.5, where he tried (key word tried) to fry an egg and it came out a bit ugly ı must say. Later on , with each try that he attended on different programs he kept messing up and a NCTzen took a screenshot of one of those incident asking Gordon Ramsay to judge her boyfriends egg , Gordon Ramsay replied with 'get back on tinder' and this became a viral meme ,so in the song he indicates that he doesn't know how to make an egg and doesn't need to, because he is already so successful that other people are already there to cook for him and he will never go hungry.
The inside joke of Mark’s reoccurring history of (failing) to cook eggs being the backstory to this song always kills me! Mark is hilarious and was very intentional with the humor in this song, even managing to make a lil reference to the way he tends to ramble or try to convey deep thoughts but ends up stumbling over his words and resulting in his members and fans going “what are you even trying to say mark??”
The fact that he made a song that was both a BANGER and FUNNY is just…so Mark Lee. He’s a real powerhouse and works SO hard. I’m so excited to see where his solo work goes bc “Golden Hour” is so different from his first song “Child”.
Also, Mark has actually said that he doesn’t consider himself a rapper (which I would agree with, but that’s because I’m a Black American who’s very sensitive and protective of the genres of music created from my culture lol) and that he actually prefers to sing! He’s also EXTREMELY passionate about writing, not just lyrics but in general. He said if he wasn’t an idol and even still, he’d like to pursue writing a novel or something in that world.

Also I think you’re confusing Mark’s song “Golden Hour” with the NCT 2023 album “Golden Age” lol Haechan did the same thing on a live as well so don’t feel bad.

Mark had us in stitches cause we knew the story behind the song... so it was a real gift to the fans. The other gift was him singing which he doesn't often do. He wanted to be a singer in NCT but they made him a rapper instead. You know how long this song was probably sitting in a vault.... His ideas come to life. SM artists are multi-faceted and he adds wisdom. Great reaction guys... he took us on a new journey.
NCT 127 members as a whole and individually have changed my life BIGtime.

The fact that this song probably came from a meme. An Nctzen tag Gordon Ramsey in Twitter/X with a photo of eggs cooked by Mark (Really bad looking), and wrote "My boyfriend was making eggs. What do you think?" and Gordon reply "Get back on tinder!"... So yeah, Mark instead of learning how to make eggs, he did this masterpiece taking that as reference HAHAHAHAHA i simply love him.

Golden Hour is such a freaking jam, I played this so much the month it came out. It’s also so hilarious.
I really can’t wait for you to discover more NCT bsides. They float between genres beautifully, it feels so easy for them. And it gives you an entirely new appreciation for their music and artistry. The title tracks (as freaking amazing as they are) are the tip of the iceberg when it comes to understanding NCTs true excellence.
thank you, both, for your reactions!💚 my daughter introduced me to Kpop over 6 years ago, but when I came across NCT over 3 years ago, something happened/shifted within me. Simon, when you stopped at 5:48 I laughed out loud, because yes, similarly for me, NCT has changed my life....and it has been soooo fun! I have loved and laughed as the two of you have taken the NCT journey! Other songs of theirs that I love and would recommend highly are 127's Love on the Floor (concert/live footage only), Gimme Gimme, and Highway to Heaven (English Version) (which is beautiful and almost nostalgic-y), and also Taeyong's Ghost.
