Another top video showing high standards of honesty and integrity Joe. I have just purchased a 2018 cat S Mini Cooper S F56 auto. Did the vehicle score with the Shifting Metal 15% discount. The report was comprehensive and highly recommended 👌
A bigger problem is fairly new cars which don't get written off but get badly repaired. Many years ago, someone drove into the back of my new car. It got repaired. A few years later someone else drove into the back of it. It fell apart at the repaired welds. More recently, a driver jumped red lights and hit the driver side front wing of my company car. It got repaired, but despite returning to the repairers several times, the panel gaps were never right, the paint wasn't blended in right and the steering was heavy.
No problems buying a categorised car, had quite a few over the years, as long as they are repaired to a good standard, excellent value for money when your on a budget.
I have had a few write off repaired cars and if you are not fussy about mint bodywork they can be real bargains. As a rough guide I have found they sell for about 75% of top straight cars if repaired to a good standard. As you say, do the checks and value accordingly. A couple of points to note are if another claim is made the insurance company may value it very low and getting finance can be tricky.
I've had a w204 c220 cdi coupe since 2019, best car I've ever had, all its needed in 60k miles is tyres, pads, a water pump, a battery and routine sevicing. Prior to this one I changed my car every 18 months on average. I have no plans of getting rid of this anytime soon after more than 4 years. In terms of the categories. I'd happily buy a cat s or cat n if I knew the circumstances around it being categorised and that it had been properly repaired. Otherwise I wouldn't touch them.
I have just got rid of mine same but a 250 and it had full pano roof. Never had a problem until the high pressure fuel pump started to play up intermittently
If it was written off during a lockdown chances are no physical inspection was done, a lot of cars ended up as S when in normal times an inspection would have produced an N. If you’ve got Carly, and assuming Mercs are the same as BMWs, the original VIN will be stored in the headlamp modules, so if they don’t match the numbers stored elsewhere that’s a clue…
A cat car can make economic sense. If you're going to keep it then you can live with its marked history. Also who's to say that a perfectly un-caterised car has not had some knocks or dents in the past but the previous owner didn't go through there insurance company. It's another great video.thank you.
I've got a Cat 'S' car, was wrote off in the pandemic so I doubt it even got assessed properly. The way cars crash now its less likely to send all the crash energy though the whole shell down side is little bits of plastic can be expensive. It would help everyone out if Cat cars had to be inspected by an independent body to improve the image of the salvage industry and remove the cowboys.
CAT N means absolutely nothing, prob better as highlights had a slight fender bender but just cosmetic. How many cars do you reckon are bought and sold that have had a little bump and the owner has put right and never claimed / reported. If seller not honest easily missed at least with a CAT it points to the area, get a decent check and will show pics of damage, inspect the repair thoroughly and get yourself a bargain. About 20-30% off a CAT N maybe 40% off an S compared to retail
I bought a Cat D (before they changed naming), it was light panel damage but got for nearly half price at the time. Never had a problem with it, got me into a far better, high spec, lower mileage car than I'd planned to buy for the money. Sold it 4 years later and got most of the money back, obviously disclosed the categorisation but buyer didn't mind. If you know it drives well. has been maintained and maintain it well yourself and repair was good, not a lot to worry about.
usually I buy salvage only for the reason I know its there due to being in a accident, most of these private sales which are cheap usually have something wrong which they’re just trying flog quickly.
Once you realaise some of the things insurers tend to write off cars for I think most people wouldn't mind. Insurers often just cba & especially around the covid era backlog of lengthy repairs at official garages a lot were just wrote off for simplicity with people then buying cars back off insurers & repairing themselves (often minor stuff).
My old man has a 14 plate c220 amg. He spent a lot more than that seems a bargain in my eyes. If I knew the car has gone through a trustworthy garage like yourself I don’t think a categorised car would scare me off.
Hi Joe. Nice Car. I had an 2011 one of those. I bought it off a Police Auction. It was Matt black with black wheels and it was Confiscated from a Drug Dealer lol. I used to buy and sell cars in Uxbridge. West London. But im now back in Ireland. It's very hard to get small cars over here. That Merc was so cheap. You've done very well there. I wouldn't be at all Scared of a Cat S Car. You get what you pay for. If the Repair is done properly then your off to the Bank lol. Good video Joe. 😅 🇨🇮🇨🇮
I guess it would be worth getting a good professional vehicle inspection for peace of mind. £200 with a AA comprehensive check would be well worth it and could save you thousands.. 👍 I would buy one if it was endorsed with a comp check.. 👌
Another top video and great content. The previous owner being honest about the car being category S is refreshing. I am not keen on white cars, but this looks great. I would buy a categorized car only if the work has been done well. Keep the great videos coming.
Another great video Joe 👍I really don't know what puts people off category cars my daily drive insignia was a cat s and my other car my kia was ex fleet car and never had any problems with either
Looks another super purchase by Berrow Motors Finest Super Joe!!!...💪🏻👊🏻👏🏻 Profit defo in this and someone will have a very nice vehicle for many years to come!!!...Keep up the great work Joe buddy 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Sure. If I could get Chris from Salvage Rebuilds UK to look it over. But I don't think he'd like the way the bonnet 'fits'. I assume Merc gaps aren't supposed to vary so.
From the video the bumper wing gaps don't look right and the bonnet doesn't seem to sit right on the wings. If I were to consider a cat car I'd want to see the condition pre repair to check if the airbags and belts had also deployed.
Cat N or cat S is a no for me. When I was younger it didn't bother me, but it does now. If it was a genuinely rare higher-powered petrol-engined car then I'd consider it. Nice looking car though 😁 and great video 🖖
That's a lovely motor. I would definitely buy a categorised car if it had obviously been repaired properly and the price was right! I think the vehiclescore rating was a bit high though, bet that initial check doesn't search for any insurance cat history or it would have flagged it up under 'Bad Bits' surely!
@@ShiftingMetal It said it was down to being over 10 years old, having over 100,000 miles, and the amount of faults and advisories it's had But actually I've had the car 7 months now and not had a single issue with it, it's a lovely car that drives very well, on the surface you can tell its been well used and worn out but mechanically everything is fine. Definitely a lot better than some of the cars we see on this channel 😂
Hello there. Because I find your videos so entertaining I decided to have a gander at your older offerings. Unfortunately since the BMW E30 video I have been unable to find any with your younger slimmer brother. Did you have a fall out? Hope he appears again, not as polished as your goodself, but every bit as entertaining. 😁😁😜
i wouldnt touch it with a barge pole you never ever buy a cat no matter whats wrong with it its a NO NO . thats coming from a driver whose been clean all his life just as the car . 😁

Awesome, glad to hear it Julien 👍

Hello bro 😎 how are you doing, let’s get into the video. Love the cinematically on the Mercedes and music is spot on ❤

Won't make much difference when they get old cars like this 2013 merc
Good video, I've been driving a cat s Polo for the last 18 months, it's been spot on, basically a half price car.

Pre Covid written off garages weren’t open to fix them so go written off ..
Good content 😊

Hi Joe nice acquisition, their is definitely a potential profit in this car.Good luck.

This Mercedes is a lot of car for the money, even though I’m an obsessive Škoda fan girl, I do like it.
I have a cat S car,no issues with mine

Worth every penny and more nice car nice Deal
Glad you liked the car joe, thanks haz
Thanks again!

Nice honest review 👍 and a beauty of a car ☺️
i had a cat D ford KA no issues the Merc looks nice

Your joking. They are pathetic
It’s a good idea but I wouldn’t fool yourself as to what the AA would check for with one of those checks!

Most seat belts deploy in a accident and the drivers air bag dosant tell you anything
Interesting video, thanks.

Nice looking car though 😁 and great video 🖖
Great video, May I ask If you have ever done one on my favourite marque? SAAB
I think so, if not I’ll do one soon!
looks like good value if the buyer intends to keep it for a while.
That's a lovely motor. I would definitely buy a categorised car if it had obviously been repaired properly and the price was right! It’s mainly based off of the mot history
Not my mk6 Fiesta scoring 152 out of 1000 on that test 😬🤣
😬😂
@@ShiftingMetal It said it was down to being over 10 years old, having over 100,000 miles, and the amount of faults and advisories it's had

Great video and helpful i would buy a cat s car if repaired correctly my present car is a cat N and i saved a nice chunk of £££ :}
Just need savy person to check structure
Thanks nice car
You're better than tv
Thanks!
Thanks lam Richard if car was my last chance of getting a great car on a budget and not thinking salling it in future that ok
Great video. Does it cost any more to insure a categorised car?
Not that I’ve ever experienced or heard of
Great video brother 😅
Thanks 😁

Haha, I ate him 🤷♂️
Aaaah, that explains it. He did have a certain 'missionary' look about him. Seriously, very enjoyable content. All the best.@@ShiftingMetal
I would look at a Cat N but probably not a Cat S
If you keep refusing to plug car vertical musk is gunna get you cancelled.
i wouldnt touch it with a barge pole you never ever buy a cat no matter whats wrong with it its a NO NO . thats coming from a driver whose been clean all his life just as the car . 😁
driven many cars bmw is sporty and fun to drive mercedes is reliable and comfort and audi just does stuff from both of them somewhere in the middle
Lexus (non hybrids) are all 3 but with reliability and dependable
I have bought of category cars....makes no difference to me
Its 6K's worth, tops
Already sold for £6500 🤷♂️
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🚘
snap your hand of for £6000
If it was just light damage, surely it would have been CAT N (non-structural)?
You’d assume but they don’t always get it right
I am often down Burnham I will have to drop in one day and have a walk about! 😊
