@ria rel true but if a renter there's little you can do if your landlord failed to take the initiative (usually the case as they have to spend money and don't save anything personally) and houses cost millions in Sydney where i live.

the Labor federal government actually subsidised a solar panel scheme for a limited period but a) it was only open to homeowners and b) it was arguably poorly managed by the government in that one instance, as it is known many private companies were able to rort the scheme by various mechanisms

I agree with what you said but when you compare the amount of solar energy and the temperature (per year) , there’s a huge gap which is rising exponentially. Well, global warming is a natural phenomenon but we’re make it worse ! It usually takes 10 000 years for the earth to gain 1 degree Celsius, we’ve make it in less than 100 … We know why the earth get warmer and warmer before the temperature falls and there’s no reason except human activity for that much temperature changes.

How many of you would approve of a nuclear power plant being put online within 50 miles of where you live? Just curious

    • @everythingscience9691
      @everythingscience9691 3 роки тому

      I would, they're incredibly safe.
Well, they're safe, unless built by 1960's communists, or on the coastline of a nation with 100 active volcanoes. Furthermore, using small modular reactors, in lieu of a single large, multi-megawatt reactor, addresses the concerns of an incident such as the Three Mile Island Accident.
They're safer (99.7% fewer deaths than coal), more efficient (24 million kilowatts per Kilogram of Fissile Uranium fuel vs 8 kilowatts per kilo of coal), create 273x less CO2 emission, are more reliable, and far cleaner/create less radioactive waste compared to coal-fire power plants.
Yes, you heard me right, a coal-fire plant emits more radioactive and heavy metal pollutants into the ambient environment, than a nuclear reactor. You should be more concerned of living within 50 miles of a coal fire plant.
It should also be noted for those that think a nuclear reactor melting down, is the same as a nuclear detonation, is very false. A nuclear reactor cannot undergo a nuclear chain reaction, as the fuel is not processed to the point of enrichment necessary for supercriticality, and even if it were (which it isn't), the neutron absorbing counter measures, such as boron rods, would disallow it.

thank you for the coverage BBC, from a Sydneysider born in Australia with British ancestry and citizenship. The events of 2019 and 2020 are not far beneath the surface and already tears are coming to my eyes thinking about the implications. Even the RFS themselves are not even paid workers and many had no protective equipment. We lost so much wildlife and the people who survived were hit with covid conditions straightaway so the coverage stopped.
With climate change a reality, I don't know how much longer Australia will be liveable. Fire can even start its own weather conditions like tornadoes, wind and lightning. Some firefighters in Victoria were killed not by fire, but a wind from fire so strong that it tipped the fire truck over. The scenes from the wildfires were the most apocalyptic i've ever seen in my lifetime. We were just so lucky this happened before covid.

yeh, they had 130,000 years experience with "firestick farming", so they're the masters & we are recognising & using their knowledge more & more now. Wrong to say they didn't have issues though, whites have only recently accepted their stories about loss of control of fires due to birds working in teams to pick up burning branches & light new fires across their firebreaks & other "myths" as real. Overall though, they did have better control than us, although their experts now say climate change makes it impossible

& btw, for anyone questioning that 130,000 years & saying archaeological evidence only shows 60,000-85,000 years of occupation, pollen & ash studies have shown large scale burning began 120,000-130,000 years ago across much of the country, with no climate or other viable explanations for the sudden move to regular fires & thick forests being cleared to make way for pasture that would act as farmland if someone was farming kangaroos & beginning domestication of local rices & millets (as we know occurred at some point). By process of elimination, homosapians doing the burning is the only explanation for the fires that has been found to date

Ppl quickly forget that cos carbon, the earth has become 10-15% greener. A standard volcano emits more carbon than most human impact forms of carbon, so imagine the carbon released just from the fires and the earth hasnt changed.
Plues ppl forget, in 10,500 BC the earth went thru a huge quick climate change and much of the USA burnt and oceans rose 400 feet etc. Only 20,000 yrs ago Australia and Africa were rainforests so the climate is always changing. This human impact crap is BS.
The Earth has a much larger capcity to heal and evolve than what we give her credit for. It has been here a lot longer than we have. Give her some credit. And stop this anti-carbon, ant-human (we are carbon-based life forms) and the billionaires wanting to create so-called weak humanity where we think and feel we are less than perfect and evil etc etc etc. Stop listening to the ones who hate mankind and broaden your research. It goes way beyond just studying climate change. It has been shown the sun's cycles have a much larger impact on our climate than what humans ever have......there is a start to go researching elsewhere beyond the BS the media is portraying.
Not a single environmentalist has mentioned how Nikola Tesla over 100 years developed free electrical energy, for the entire planet. Only cos large Co's and the govt couldn't make money from it, was it shut down and dismantled and Tesla was largely taken out of the science books. He even totally disagreed and proved Einstein wrong yet we still learn about Einstein's ideas as being correct. Where is the research by these environmentalists re free electrical energy?

yeh, nice theory but misses reality. There's currently severe haze & asthma warnings in Sydney due to hazard reduction burns, pretty normal this time of year, huge amounts of land are burnt every year. Problem is a lot of Aussie trees LOVE fire & do everything they can to encourage it. We can burn everything now, but if we get a dry couple of months & the trees therefore decide it's a good time to really push their reproduction, come January, they will suddenly drop 50% of their leaves, along with huge branches (big enough to cill people & crush cars), branches that looked 100% healthy on the outside & could therefore not have been predicted or cut down before that happened & then when a fire starts, they will use long strands of bark that they will partly detach from their trunk to create lifts, so as to get the tiny fire into their oil filled leaves, where they can explode & therefore propel more of those bark chunks into the air, to start new spotfires over 20kms from the original small fire site & at the new site, the trees there do it all over again & next site the same & on & on & each time they do it, the tree species that are the strongest in encouraging fire are also the same ones to successfully germinate their seed & so over time they come to completely dominate the landscapes

  • @MD-rw6uh

Any way that´s not a real solution, a pale roof cool down yes but it reflects the rays which return to the atmosphere and at the end it will affect more the ozone layer and hence the green house effect will be worse ,.. solar panels are also not the best solution as those use material that come from mines, then countries in southamerica for instance will be the ones been again exploited for lithium , and also gold which is also contained in those. We need renewable energy but instad of thinking too much about materials that cool down our houses reflecting the damage to the sky , think more about the natural solutions, trees trees trees, plants everywhere, that´s a real green solution that is not studied or promoted because is free, no one company get profit from it and became rich as they do selling the "new material for your home".
