Your very first opening sequence is the reason I don't play D4. I don't want to hop on and grind ~45+ mins to feel like I barely did anything. It's why I almost always solo D2R and just spend 20-30 mins here and there to do things. Eg. this morning I was target finding Andy for a Shako for a new Lightning Sorc I'm making and found it in ~15 mins so goal was already done. Found a bunch of other items while doing that too. It's soo much more satisfying for people who don't have big blocks of free time.

The only reason I join a group game online is for XP, people are so fast at picking its almost suspicious lol. If I'm looking for drops its P1 all the way! Trouble for me with split farms is the timing... Games are either too fast/slow, it never seems just right.
Every once in a while, my mouse happens to be in exactly the right spot to click an item as soon as the text box appears without having to move, and I was already clicking as my mouse covered it, and the item drop animation still shows the item in the air, and I get a scroll of town portal or something... Nothing is fast enough when the other players are using grab macros though
All I do is solo farm. Found some crazy shit, including an eth reaper's toll, sooo many high runes, and a Griffon's Eye after about 3800 solo Pindle runs. And yes, I track all these runs and screenshot and document them in folders. All solo. If they aren't solo, I don't count the run towards the counter. 5000 Pindle runs now, 1000 Chaos Sanctuary, 100 Baal runs, 397 Trav runs, 50 Pit runs, and 23 Stony Tomb runs so far.
I prefer solo play online. I can stop wherever I want and it is more chill for me. Also nobody can pick item faster than me. When I need trade something or play in group I can always make public game.
I think you will find that the silent majority do just play online Solo mostly for farming gear. If you are grinding levels though, you would be playing in P8 parties.
I will add to that hypothesis Phil. The most important factor in obtaining items in the game solo is Speed. Not Magic find and especially when considering Rune farming since magic find % has no bearing on rune drops. So for example Travincal. If you can pull off an average run time of about 1:00 to 1:25 seconds from screen loading to exit game you're money! That's nearly 60 runs an hour. And if all you got to spare is a couple hours a day to farm. There you go. Player count>Speed>magic find

I'm nearly always P1 online. I put together a season plan for a Light Sorc+Barb, putting in all my target items into a spreadsheet. Just to keep me focused, because D2R just drops a shit-load of junk you're never going to care about or trade because that takes up precious time too. Once I have my sorc up and running in Hell I'm farming terror zones or key hunting in a named/Pwd protected game. When DClone turns up I'm jumping into that game with my Barb (when he's ready) to take him down. That's a pretty good stream of annis. Eventually that Barb may take on Uber Tristram, or at least farm for an organ pack to trade. In the meantime I'm gathering rune drops (Ral/Amn/Hel) and gem drops (especially Pamy) to trade for mostly Ists. From those Ists I trade for items to fill in the missing parts on the plan. The light sorc can farm for all keys quite comfortably on P1. Nitilak is tricky but you can take him at range. Farming for keys seems to be a fairly good return on my time. Light sorc is tricky when not geared well though. Next season I might plan for a Hammerdin/Smite combo and see how well that goes in the early ladder; even though I'm not likely to ever compete for top 100 let alone top 10 on a season ladder. Wish Blizzard would make it into a ranking system based on time/drops/kills within a time period instead of a race to 99.

Players 8 is basically players 4 if not near the other 7 players. If I remember correctly. Drop wise. If your the type that joins a "Hell Start" game of 7 other players and farm solo.
Phil what do you recommend online with friends or offline? I have maybe 1 or 2 people i play with but it’s pretty rare. I juggle between pc and consoles but consoles multiplayer is very limited.
I always play solo except for baal runs until I can solo baal runs . This league I've dropped a Lo rune from Andariel, a Sur rune from a blood clan in a terror zone. Not much I can say about that.
well another thing you can do online players 3 or more mode for better drops, if your toon is set up enough to solo places at those higher player x levels. I look for cows and baal runs that are newly listed and hop in fast before it fulls up, and quick run mephy and diablo, most of the time those are free nobody farmed em right off. sure occasionally folks run to your spots not the host listed cows or baal run, while they go to baal, i go to diablo, while they go to cows, i go to mephisto or trav - etc etc. so im not fighting who can click 1st loots fights. farm spots fast not listing on the host game, so typically folks join will go cows up front or baal and such, and leave several other good farm spots open early on.
If I understood correctly then, probably the best way would be to find people who farm different places individually. So realistically, a p3 game, where one does Chaos runs, another ball runs, and another meph runs or so would be optimal (each would get drops 61.22% of the time instead of 37.5%, without affecting one another in any way).
absolute great content. half of your p8 experience is like; ohhhh … rune ooouuch someone took that ahh missed it thats why i play p1 for looting and p8 for leveling. keep up the great work!
I like to join rush games with a handful of people in them then just run to other level 85 areas that don’t affect their rush and grind them out. Pits, stony, ancient tunnels. But if I’m not doing that or playing with buddies I’m just grinding solo. Only time I go into big Baal or chaos type games is to get exp. And if I get something cool along the way then sweet
When I'm online farming, I do Split MF games so I get 100% of the drops still at minimum of a P3 game, usually p5. Your solo luck was on point tho lol.
Hey Phil. We all been throwing theories of how to get better item and runes. I got a new one im currently trying on single player: Before i start i go to Nightmare difficulty and then to Hell. Resets the map, yes. But starting to think it effects the drops...I donno..Testing..
Even is it is frustrating to find super sick drops that you could sell for lots of HR (i found recently a MA skiller +36 life, 5all res 18life sc..) it is so peaceful to play offline and enjoyable to level up and play your different characters.
I personally see more HRs in D2r when doing those public player 8 96 Terror Zones. So I starded a Trav Gold Barb yesterday in hopes to gamble for some rare items to get the runes via trading 😂
I've moved to purely offline solo now (on Xbox) - I've never liked the idea of playing for hours to get something to drop, and someone else takes it while putting in zero effort! I can now P8 when I want, MF when I want, have no worries about trading or getting acammed as I play all classes and just swap finds between them. 👍 No one I know plays D2R, I have RL friends who I played D4 with but you know, D4... 😂 Anyway, none of this matters now because DD2 comes out at midnight tomorrow! 🎉😂
When it say 2 in same area,if i play with 2 account,if 1 stay at the wp,does its increase the drop on all the area?or the 2 players need to stay near each other?
that very first conquers crown that dropped, that was mine im surprised i got it to be honest, great video phil, thanks for taking the time out to explain this in a bit more detail!
Also for me it's discouraging playing ladder. I'm lucky to have a few hours a day or any at all and I was so late in ladder that I just didn't want to play it and non ladder has gotten boring to me for some years now. Single player actually sounds refreshing and can play on p7/p8 if I wanted to by myself and enjoy me time
I absolutely agree that p1 solo farm is almost always better than p8 farming online. Elites always drop one item, regardless of the amount of players. Maximize the amount of elites you kill in high level areas per time invested and you will see more items. To do this, farm the high level areas that have the lowest health monsters that your build can farm, fx Ancient Tunnels in a2 for cold builds or the Pits in a1 for lightning builds with Infinity. The player count should not be increased unless it doesn't decrease the amount of time spent killing monsters - in other words, if your character one-shots in both p1 and p3 and doesn't notice the extra damage, increase the player count. The advantage of higher player count online is XP, not items. That being said, I don't think an 8 hour by 8 hour comparison proves anything in d2. In fact any result-based comparison lends itself to faulty conclusions because of RNG.
Phil I love your content I'm playing on a console and it's awful stick drift LOL I'm a player from way back LOL it's fun seeing the game again and I don't miss having to reperm my characters thanks for the video they're always fun😊

Before D2R I played online ladder for years. Countless Baal runs. Rarely, if ever got any of the drops. People were using a hack program called "pik it" and you had zero chance of getting any items. Haven't played online much at all with D2R. Do the hacks still exist?
Doesnt seem to exist, yet... at least not on a widely public scale. Definitely seen some suspicious snags from people who somehow grinded out level 97+ tho
i hate it so much that i cant just adjust the playercount online , theres either your zone taken already or people are way too fast or in this case the game is just dead ... for the next season il consider buying 4 more accounts
Yeah...Occy! Took me WEEKS (!) to find the stupid thing! I love Occy, it's my fave caster (well: Sorc!) weapon! I am playing online, but alone! I sometimes do Baal-Runs for levels (might try some offline soon to test characters, as I just nuked my main character (sorc) by re-skilling and now she does even worse damage -.-)
I've yoinked a few good items in p8 pub games, but I do p1 runs because the likelihood of me actually snatching the item is horrible and I'd rather take lower chances alone
The time it takes to fill a lobby with 8 players is what makes me go p1. Either that or I make public games called "I cs You MF" or something and just play solo until people eventually join and buff the mobs. But since I'm reserving CS for myself, I don't have to compete for any loot.
I did solo offline p8 for years and had a character or two that were beyond maxed with all high runes. However, i felt no real sense of accomplishment due to have no relativity with other characters. Like, i had done it, i was a beast, but noone could see all my hard work Now, i play online hardcore only. There are way less unsportman-like players as there is more sense to help eachother. Starting a new character you often get people giving useful items to help you. Yes you dont get every good item that drops but its also a longer more fulfilling journey to beating Hell and the Ubers seem an unaitanable journey of hardship. Solo offline its just to speed runny for me knowing i can p8 to hell Baal in quick succession farming the normal spots so easily. I dunno. Im still torm over what is best
As a fellow streamer, finding people has become much easier. But even still sometimes you just dont have the time. You had some above average luck on them p1's but i think the point still lands solid. Split mf seems to be my most bang for buck. You guys go eff off and play somewhere else and leave me to my sandbox lol. Some examples from just last night. Running cows. Drop a jah, dude whos not even killing slips in grabs the rune and keeps following me around. Later, split mf, i get a ber drop click it, it doesnt pick up, i have to tele out before dying and have time to tele back and grab it.
When I play in public games, I do so only for experience, not for drops. As a matter of fact, I have items hidden in public games as I get frustrated seeing all the monkeys jump for a TAL rune, it is so pathetic and toxic. Another reason is that most public games are filled with BOTS which you do not stand a chance against. I play ladders, and the drops are by solo only and usually I do pretty good. For me, Public games for EXP, solo for drops. Blizzard really should have the drops exclusive for players like they do in D3 instead of having it a free for all.
you have a point about having to fight with 7 other people for the drops in a public game BUT the magic find is way better when there is 8 players in the game and also when the players are close by , the drop rates of runes in p1 vs p8 is insanely different and runes is what everyone is searching for. if you have a good clear speed the best will always be to solo an area in a p8 game. also you could try again your challenge and will have completly different outcome, thats RNG
Except MF is calculated on the last hit during group games. So if you're the MFer but you're farming with 7 others who have much lower than you.. Kinda like having your merc kill a boss lol :s
Personally I feel people should learn to be more efficient and effective with basic equipment. More importantly learn the game properly. When people get in the rat race you don’t realize you don’t “have to” you just want to.
I like to join random games with people in it to farm in. They always complain that im increasing the P level without helping - to that I say, make a private game then :)
Pickit is still used by at least 20% of the playerbase. If you are in a game with someone using pickit you won't beat them to anything that is on their 'list'.
I played with my grandpa from 5 years old to 18. We shared drops, and helped each other with everything. I've never really enjoyed playing with anybody else.
This is the most wholesome comment I'll probably read all year on YT.
Thats amazing😊

So realistically, a p3 game, where one does Chaos runs, another ball runs, and another meph runs or so would be optimal (each would get drops 61.22% of the time instead of 37.5%, without affecting one another in any way).
absolute great content. half of your p8 experience is like;
ohhhh … rune
ooouuch someone took that
ahh missed it
thats why i play p1 for looting and p8 for leveling. keep up the great work!
That intro instantly GLUED me to the rest of the video
I like to join rush games with a handful of people in them then just run to other level 85 areas that don’t affect their rush and grind them out. Pits, stony, ancient tunnels. But if I’m not doing that or playing with buddies I’m just grinding solo. Only time I go into big Baal or chaos type games is to get exp. And if I get something cool along the way then sweet
same or if they are doing choas or baal I just hit trav and a few other quick spots.
@@seanmorgan8128 right. You can do pindle shenk and eldritch pretty damn quick too
I appreciate you arent ruining their rush.
I am using Sorc with Nova but with Crescent Moon and i dropped one day Sacred Targe Eth 45res and I earned 3 ber for this item:D
When I'm online farming, I do Split MF games so I get 100% of the drops still at minimum of a P3 game, usually p5. Your solo luck was on point tho lol.
Getting items in a full pub game feels so good though. Best one I ever got was an eth reapers toll. Traded for Lo and my first grief.
can i ask sir is the skill of druid hurricane physical damge or elem damge ?
Hey Phil.
We all been throwing theories of how to get better item and runes.
I got a new one im currently trying on single player:
Before i start i go to Nightmare difficulty and then to Hell.
So I starded a Trav Gold Barb yesterday in hopes to gamble for some rare items to get the runes via trading 😂
but would it be worth it to do the online if you only play solo.
Nice video Phil. Thanks man
I've moved to purely offline solo now (on Xbox) - I've never liked the idea of playing for hours to get something to drop, and someone else takes it while putting in zero effort! I can now P8 when I want, MF when I want, have no worries about trading or getting acammed as I play all classes and just swap finds between them. 👍 No one I know plays D2R, I have RL friends who I played D4 with but you know, D4... 😂
Anyway, none of this matters now because DD2 comes out at midnight tomorrow!
I brought the 2 20 java gloves from you, loving them, cows don't
Been waiting for this!!!
Ngl I have been running solo on my foh tesladin and loving it
I never played single.player...I'm gonna do that now lol.
What console? I don't get any drift on my Switch pro controller.
@@IMP3TIGO xbox series s it's awful when they go bad the controllers
@@miguelmaldonado4433 I watched actman's video on microsoft/xbox's decline and that makes sense why the controllers even would have problems with it when the Japanese consoles apparently don't.
Damn dude I play with Leviathan all the time. Didn’t know he played in your streams ✌️
The video is not objective. You can join to Ballruns game and run Chaos alone and get all loot on P8.
8 hours of chill and thrill or 8 hours of anxiety, anger and constant dread
Before D2R I played online ladder for years. Countless Baal runs. Rarely, if ever got any of the drops. People were using a hack program called "pik it" and you had zero chance of getting any items. Haven't played online much at all with D2R. Do the hacks still exist?
Doesnt seem to exist, yet... at least not on a widely public scale. Definitely seen some suspicious snags from people who somehow grinded out level 97+ tho
sorc bots with telekinesis pick up all uniques instantly
been that way for years
@@zarthemad8386 except for the fact they made telekinesis not able to pick up items ages ago. Lol
Hi Phil! Do you play D4?
Presumably if you want to hork runes you'd put just one point into Find Item to keep the MF part of the roll down?
i hate it so much that i cant just adjust the playercount online , theres either your zone taken already or people are way too fast or in this case the game is just dead ... for the next season il consider buying 4 more accounts
Also, I don't have an inventory of skillers so p1 makes runs fast
The time it takes to fill a lobby with 8 players is what makes me go p1.
Either that or I make public games called "I cs You MF" or something and just play solo until people eventually join and buff the mobs. But since I'm reserving CS for myself, I don't have to compete for any loot.
I did solo offline p8 for years and had a character or two that were beyond maxed with all high runes. However, i felt no real sense of accomplishment due to have no relativity with other characters. Like, i had done it, i was a beast, but noone could see all my hard work
Now, i play online hardcore only.
Split magic find games with 3 to 5 players works pretty well. No one's in your lane to snatch your items
I’m oceanic ping so 99% of lobby games have ping so high I can’t even teleport properly let alone pick up dropped items before other players 😢
THAT RABENFROST WAS 4 AR OFF PERFECT
dont forget to take those Claws for Mosaic they worth alot if good rolls
When I play in public games, I do so only for experience, not for drops. As a matter of fact, I have items hidden in public games as I get frustrated seeing all the monkeys jump for a TAL rune, it is so pathetic and toxic. Another reason is that most public games are filled with BOTS which you do not stand a chance against. I play ladders, and the drops are by solo only and usually I do pretty good. For me, Public games for EXP, solo for drops. Blizzard really should have the drops exclusive for players like they do in D3 instead of having it a free for all.
The most efficient way to MF is higher player count & split MF, so you are in your own area and not fighting over drops!
You don't want to all farm at the same place if you're doing P8. Usually you split up and get way better chance at loot
Fighting for these drops with 7 players early ladder is half of the fun😂😂
you have a point about having to fight with 7 other people for the drops in a public game BUT the magic find is way better when there is 8 players in the game and also when the players are close by , the drop rates of runes in p1 vs p8 is insanely different and runes is what everyone is searching for. if you have a good clear speed the best will always be to solo an area in a p8 game. also you could try again your challenge and will have completly different outcome, thats RNG
Except MF is calculated on the last hit during group games. So if you're the MFer but you're farming with 7 others who have much lower than you.. Kinda like having your merc kill a boss lol :s
I consider myself proud online only non-ladder Andy.
P8 games are for leveling. Its just a bonus if I get something good.
Agree
Those 2/20 Java gloves INSANITY
Why is ethereal good again? 😊
Lmao the 2/20 ML java gloves were beast drop
The real answer is to join a p8 game and farm an unused mf zone
Online I always have 🔥 luck
(Alone) compared to playing offline...
I all the Time get shako on p1 likes 5 drops.
Ya I don't play with others often because of that
You should try using a controller on pc. When picking up drops smashing A with an empty inventory you almost grab everything.
Where's the FoH stick?
I like the idea with this video....but running it with a paladin this decked out compared to what the casual player runs with, doesnt match up.
if you hunting for elites and champions its better on p1 otherwise like higher density normal mob farm is better on p3 split game
its like gambling and if the item drops while your clicker is right there. also fcr break points. and being sober...
Personally I feel people should learn to be more efficient and effective with basic equipment. More importantly learn the game properly. When people get in the rat race you don’t realize you don’t “have to” you just want to.
Raven Frost in german Rabenfrost 😉
I like to join random games with people in it to farm in. They always complain that im increasing the P level without helping - to that I say, make a private game then :)
I just play solo offline, no pressure and great longevity - plus every drop is mine haha....
Pickit is still used by at least 20% of the playerbase. If you are in a game with someone using pickit you won't beat them to anything that is on their 'list'.
why mosaic banded?
It’s like staring at the sun.
it crashes games
