Two down and one more to go! Now I've gotta get working on the paludarium for my African Bullfrog Samson. That one is going to be really neat so stay tuned. I've got a ton of other cool builds lined up for 2019, so stay tuned. Let me know what you thought about this build? 🗨️ 👇
You'll love it man! Frogs are so fun. I used to do 100% monthly changes, but with a setup like this, 50% weekly to biweekly changes should be sufficient.
Was expecting you watching his Videos, AC ;D. You two brought me into the whole nature thing again, thank you for that. Its important, especially today, that people get in touch with our mother nature again.
He is so cute. I would love to raise one from a tadpole but I never see the giant bullfrog tadpoles anymore. They were in every shop years ago for a couple bucks. As soon as I saw you pouring the fluorite straight from the bag I was like .....no he's not... xD it's my favorite substrate. It looks so beautiful and natural underwater. But honestly I don't believe it ever becomes dust free, because whenever it rubs against itself, it just creates more clay sediment. Such a delicate, beautiful substrate that roots seem to love but not the best for sifters and destroyers :P awesome video as always!
Man, you literally have the best pet channel on UA-cam. So many animal keepers on here are just in it for the glory and don't really care about the animals that they keep , or ensuring that their enclosures are the best that they can be. You clearly know your stuff and are putting all of that knowledge to great use. Good job. Always a pleasure to watch your new videos because I always know that I'll learn something new!
Haha! It takes time an patience, but I know you can do the same! I've just been making these for a long time and I have an extensive background in fine arts.
Beautiful setup! For people who'd like something similar but a bit easier to manage (at least in terms of size) I'd suggest Leopard Frogs. You can find the tadpoles at bait shops pretty frequently. They morph large enough to eat small crickets right away, and as adults get about 3" nose to rump.
Great video! Very useful! My husband caught 3 bullfrog tadpoles in his net when he was out fishing, and we've been caring for them. They're starting to grow legs and I know we'll be needing to make a different and bigger setup. So glad you posted this! :)
Thank you for all your amazing content - and I agree with whomever said that you have a soothing/relaxing voice, also very skilled editing! Some day it will definitely pay off to have binge watched your videos multiple times, when I have the opportunity to ones again fiddle with stuff like this. All the best!
Yes! Finally MJ!!! I was so looking forward to seeing his set up. First, I love the background. It really adds to the natural simulated pond look of the tank which is something that you really do well. I was wondering if pothos would do well in an aquarium or paludarium environment and this video answers that, so thank you. I'm glad the boy likes his new home. It looks amazing in the cabinet and I really appreciate your showing how you made the lid and screen. Lots of thought go into every build of yours and your videos answer all of my questions including how long do bullfrogs live. I used to keep Calfornia newts which I never see in stores now. They can live for many years. Mine lived for 8 but I knew someone who had them for 16 years.
I know right!? So glad to get him taken care of. I try my best to make the content as comment proof as possible. I want the viewer to walk away without needing to ask questions because I already explained everything. I remember you telling me about your newt before as well! I definitely need to get those or salamanders at some time. 😊
These videos are extremely enjoyable to watch! I've been binge watching for the last two days and it really inspired me to take on a project of my own. Please continue to produce content! Love your work and the editing of these videos!
I can't wait to see the African bullfrog setup as I own an African bullfrog. I love the setup in this video. I want to try that filteration system. Thanks for a great video.
That's the only downside I've found to seachem flourite is it is so darn cloudy and takes 45 minutes of rinsing before it's even remotely clean. Still a beautiful substrate though
It’s so humbling to see how much you truly care about your animals. What does MJ stand for btw- sorry if I missed it on a prior vid! Great build.. love it!
tanner: you sure are the dyi man. i enjoyed this video and totally like m.j. thanks for all the information you shared in the tank setup. i always wanted to make a palladium for a frog, maybe now i will get onto it now. thanks, carmine p.
This is really cool. My odd pet of choice has been snapping turtles. They are so powerful, destructive and messy that no matter what you do THEY decide what the tank will look like lol
Ever since I've started watching your videos I've gained lots of inspiration, hopefully later this year I can finally make a bioactive vivarium for my gargoyle gecko.
Love your tank!! I've been freshwater fish most of my life. And I had a salt tank and turtles. Lol. Now I have a baby bulldog in my 55-gallon. The whole house loves him. Lol. When he begs for food. Lol. Mine likes to go at my hand when I move my plants 🤣. I just love their Personality. Your right. Bullfrogs are not good pets. they need lots of care. they can bite lol.
I attempted to use that fluorite substrate one time...never again. I couldn't clean it no mater how many times I rinsed it, it was a huge disaster. Nice froggy tank!
We moved into our new home in NY in November, in December I found a toad in my basement. It was alive, sluggish, too cold and no place to properly hibernate. I took him in, planted his tank up, now that it's spring it's nearing the time where I can release him but also I kind of love him. I might do something a bit more permanent for him.
That fluorite is some messy stuff I've used it in two tanks and spent a considerable amount of time rinsing it off, other than that its a great substrate.
Important question. My 4 yr old son caught a small Bullfrog {2"}. He loves all creatures like I do so we bought a large tank and set it up almost exactly like yours. But I'm not sure if the frog is eating? We give him crickets only and they hide up in the bushes and plants so it's hard to know how much he's eating. Pet store recommended getting these little orange feeder fish? Can be eat this? And what else can be be fed? I've tried nightcrawlers but they just drown. And I know your not supposed to keep wild creatures, but we've been doing it awhile and we usually let them go after a month or two when he catches something else. So please don't hate....
This looks really nice! My mom found an American toad in the basement while she was cleaning the floor, I live in Pennsylvania too and it was in the 30s so I was surprised! Also do you recommend fluval start for a planted aquarium?
Your Bullfrog is 13? Holy Bullfrog batman, I had no idea. You can find those backgrounds on AliExpress as well for very little money but that one you have is pretty nice and lends itself to your design. Nice work!
I have often thought of making a burrowing frog i.e. horned frogs, bullfrogs a natural burrow under a dwarf cattail plant within the dense root ball. Have you researched this plant for aquarium use? It does grow tall so it would need to be a taller or open topped enclosure. MJ looks happy good work on his scape
This is a beautiful set up but there needs to be a better land area for semi aquatic frogs and a uvb light. I have a green frog that likes to burrow on my land portion in the dirt. Do you have another set up that is half land, half water?
i want to build a paludarium for my tiger salamanders, but i only need a small section for the water area. and i need to build it in a way that it's easy to get in and out, since they don't climb very well. how would you go about doing this in a way that looks good? i don't think a false bottom would work well, since i only need a part of the tank to be water, and they need a thick layer of soil to burrow in. i could separate an area with a piece of glass/plexiglass, but then i would need to add a ramp or something, and i'd be afraid of them scraping their bellies on the glass when they go into the water, and i'm not sure it would look great

SerpaDesign it looks absolutely astonishingly brilliant! I’ve got two frogs at home, they’re African Dwarf Frog and they are mainly aquatic! 🐸
Looks great! These paludariums are my favorite videos. Keep up the great work!
Gorgeous tank!
I've got another one coming in a few months as well for my African Bullfrog. Stay tuned!
SerpaDesign Great one, I loved it, you have given me the perfect idea to do mine, thanks Bud
thats a weird bulldog.
Woof woof!
i think his bulldog has autism
It’s a water bulldog

Most zoo's should just hire you as their enclosure designer
Tell them to call! 😂

For sure. I've got some cool videos lined up for 2019 that will show stuff like this.
This makes me want one. I can't believe you have had him for that long. I didn't know they could live that long.
I'm terrified of frogs but I watched this since I just love your setups
I don't know what it is but that Scour Rush just gives me feelings. It's like tiny little bamboo! Almost 200k man!

Fluval Stratum you mean? If so, most definitely. I've only had good results with it other than it can be difficult to plant.
You should do a video on your favorite submerged, emergent, and terrestrial plants
Will do eventually!
I like the background you bought for the tank. But I would really appreciate to see you build a background yourself! :)
Loved this build. MJ looks great in there. Is the bulb in the led strip light just a regular bulb? No additional lighting needed to grow the plants?
