My heart broke when this happened and more so on how the families were treated, for years after, its beyond disgusting that management were not held accountable. God be with the families of those poor men .

I worked at Pike River and due to my safety concerns left before the explosion. This documentary is a well done insight into the tragedy. For a well written and accurate account of the true facts you can find it in an excellent book entitled "Tragedy At Pike River Mine, How and Why 29 Men Died" by Rebecca Macfie.

Thank you for doing the video is so well done. I was one of the people on the picket line at Pike River as I live near Greymouth. We stop them from sealing the mine at least until they entered the drift… My father who died in 2020, was a minor at Liverpool, Rewanui and then strongman coalmine on the West Coast. My father was a deputy and shotfirer. When he heard what was happening at Pike long before the explosion was horrified and expressed many of the opinions brought up in your video… He said there is no way he would ever go down there… So, to many of the old-timers said the same thing… Particularly when the office of the mine inspector, was taken over by work safe… While I could say a lot more the point is thank you for the video…. Let’s hope the lessons are learned… _ Graeme Axford - Greymouth...

More people need to see these, miners, confined space workers, factory workers. Safety is not an afterthought.

Oz & NZ have a poor response to workers being killed. Its still not a jailing offence for those responsible. In this case 29 workers killed. In Oz 100+ workers are killed every year. And the same with members of the public that are killed.Oz 4 people killed at Waterworld Qld.Operator of ride didn't know where the stop button was to stop the ride. The company was given a fine.No one went to jail.Nz White Island 20+ killed.Case went to court no one will be held responsible or go to jail. And it will be business as usual. With royal commission findings stating the obvious. That never gets done.A royal commission that costs millions. And is a cash cow for lawyers.Which doesn't save lives.A failure to learn is exactly right. Its a failure for those responsible not those killed.

i was born down the westcoast lived there until i was 28 & worked in the mines & im telling you it is a she,ll be right mate attitude down there some people call them cowboys ,not prepared for a accident because they think that it will never happen so when it did they did not have a clue on what to do or how to deal with it .Six men turned up as soon as it happened they were a rescue crew they stated we know what we are doing we can safely go in there we have only 24 hours to do it we need to go now & were prepared to do it ,they believed there could have been survivors & if not would recover the bodies & they were stopped were not allow to do it & they sealed the mine stating it would be on fire & no one would survive ,now 11 years later they are starting to re enter & have had cameras down there & they show the proof there was no fire at all wooden pallets ,rubber hoses plastics all in tacked ,,i think they should have let those men enter & i believe also they may have been survivors i feel for those families, .

I didn't know about this until recently (was deployed when it happened, no news) but after reading a blurb about them finding bodies yesterday, I've gotten myself caught up fast af. I am so angry and excited to see why the actual hell there's no burn evidence. There was an explosion right? That can be proven, there are observers. So wtf happened? Was it nothing but a gas explosion with no actual fire or ignition? How has it gone 11 years without finding an ignition source?
This all just... Feels like a corporate cover up, with government complacency. But I'll give it the benefit of the doubt until proven

Brilliant and poignant film. A respectful tribute to the men robbed of their lives by incompetent, wreckless and greedy paymasters: overseers who prioritised profit above fundamental safety. The mine operator took a dangerous gamble with the lives of others, which, tragically they lost.
Never forget - miners of the world, workers of the world, unite.

I work in a breakfast cereal factory in the U.S... All contractors or anyone who comes in gets safety training, both food safety and personal safety.

We had a few in management at our mine in Ireland that should never have been in their position they nearly cost the loss of live due to being total idiots that part of the mine was flooded and one of the high management said it would never happen. And due to the relaxed rules at the mine nearly cost me my life when a mine shift boss took explosive and put them all around were he was and let them off just 30 metres away from where I was driving a jeep and it nearly killed me was in hospital for ages and have had numerous operations all down to safety issues
