I used those jewelry chains for making hold downs for loads on flatcars I have a whole set of 8 Menards flat cars with pipe loads on them going to do another 8 in Union Pacific
@@PghTrainFanatic another tip if you’re trying to make pipe loads get aluminum round stock from Menards it’s cheaper than pipe fittings and other options you can cut it down pretty easily
Hello, thanks for the tour. It is very helpful! Have you ever advised / helped design a layout for a third party? I like yours and have built the benchwork but need to engage someone to help with the overall design. The benchwork is 12' x 17' with four tracks, two elevated. Thanks, Gary
Hey Gary thanks for the nice compliments! Shoot me an email to pghtrainfanatic.com include some pictures and we can always talk more about it. Thanks, Nick-
Stay away from those grass mats. I bought the large 5" x 100" and my hands turned green. They stain hands and clothes. I do not recommend that stuff, at all.
Hobby Lobby’s prices are high(I’m sure due to Bidenomics) but they carry a LOT of items you can use to “kitbash” an O or HO layout. Let your imagination run wild! 🤣🚂
Good review. Hobby lobby has a lot of good inventory, particularly model paints and glues. Also beads, stings etc as you pointed out. The only downside is their pricing. When possible, I use Michael’s with their perpetual coupons and discounts.
Hobby lobby is my spot for less fine details stuff Woodland is still king for most stuff. Michaels used to have a full line of Woodland scenic stuff we frequented them a lot when I was getting into model trains as a kid. Now that I am re starting I make the Lobby a standard stop whenever I go to the train shop
Hey Nick. I buy a lot of different products from Hobby Lobby. The poly quilt batting works extremely well to make DIY turf mats or vines by delayering it and stretching it in thin cob web like sheets. I paint mine with Krylon's Fusion Matt Spanish Moss and apply different colors and textures of scenic turf. I use the floral wire to make DIY trees and floral foam to make concrete piers. I use the air dry clay to make seed and feed bags. The jewelry wire and chains work for tie downs and utility high lines. I use the candel scents to make my own scented smoke fluid from mineral oil. Not mineral spirits. I have used their paper mache. Evergreen styrene plastic sheets, I do buy the 1/64th scale cars because they match the Lionel diecast semi trucks and construction vehicles and flat car loads plus they fit my autoracks. I used the Christmas pine trees by removing the snow flocking and reflocking with scenic turf and hairspray. And of course acrylic artist and craft paint and mediums, Aleene's Tacky Glue, Mod Podge, Silly Winks foam sheets to make asphalt streets. If you scrath build, it has a lot to offer that looks so much better than the commercial offerings. You're only limited by ones imagination. Which is important for those of us who model in 0-scale because of the limited convincing commercial offerings in this scale.
I don’t shop at Hobby Lobby often, but if they have something I need, I make sure that I use a coupon, or it is on sale. Never pay the shelf price in stores like Michael’s or Hobby Lobby. There are always sales and coupons online.
@@PghTrainFanatic welcome nick and i wanna mention that the jewelry section has rolls of chains you can use on train log cars i used some of those on mine and ill show those when i run another log car video
I avoid HL like the plague it is, I'd rather drive further and purchase stuff from a real hobby store, or if I can't find it, I'll order online, but I'm not giving my cash to this chain.
The fake fur sheets can be cut and trimmed with an electric beard trimmer to simulate grass fields. Add some green flocking and you can make all seasons type of grass.
There's a better sorse where you can get Styrofoam if you have recycling center by you go there because they are recycling the Styrofoam and you can get all you want for free
AWESOME!!!!! I use the wooden clothes pins to hang my skirt around the layout.
That's a great idea! Thanks!
Thanks for another hobby store tour and great tips for possible uses. Lots of creative options for sure!
You are so welcome Mike! I rushed a little in the store. Could have probably found more stuff.
Nicely done, excellent layout you have, thanks for sharing.,😊

The best part is that they actually have some model train stuff
Yes! Allot of JTT scenery supplies and they make some great stuff that’s affordable!

If you can let me know how to contact you, I will send you the track layout.
HOW ABOUT THOSE NY RANGERS !
Except the Hobby Lobby's by me have almost none of the stuff you showed in this video.
Darn they all should carry these things you’d think
We can't even get raw materials to make our model railroad scenery as cheap as their retail prices. 😥

I completely agree! I usually shop at Michael’s for scratch building and use the coupons. On Weekends they’ve been offering better coupons lately.
I go to Hobby Lobby a lot. I even found floral wire for making trees.
Hobby Lobby is my usual go to spot Scenery items. Great review of the store and what they offer! 😃

@@drewcarlson3395 I agree. Good for a couple minor detail scenery things. Otherwise woodland scenics or scenic express
Nice overview it gave me some new ideas. It's looks like most landscaping items are HO scale. I didn't see much in the way of N scale.
I was wondering the same.

I know where I’m going, when I start decorating! The grassland and crops looked neat. I may consider trying to model Cajon pass. 🤔
