When I was a young lad, I sat in the cockpit of a wrecked Japanese fighter on a trip with my father upcountry in Malaya near the Thai border. Many years later, I sat in the cinema and viewed Jim sat in one near Shanghai, and suddenly a hot sun was beating down on my head and I was back in Malaya again. Thank you, Mr Spielberg, for reminding me of happy days long gone but not forgotten. And John Williams for a great soundtrack.
The SPAM scene where Jim finds the chocolate in the airdrop canister is one of my favorite scenes, it still gives me the chills today, and the scene where he Salutes those pilots, with sparks flying everywhere, by the Mitsubishi Zero is gold!
The grin by Basie after he calms Jim down, only to be given that defiant stare down by a much older, and wiser Jim! Basie's way of welcoming Jim to the adult world!
"Empire of the Sun" A testament to human survival and to its soaring spirit over dark circumstances. If we learn from past hurts, tomorrows will be brighter and ever more harmonious. If we fail to heed to the past, then, we are condemned to new dark periods.
It's deeply touching that the amateur boy who played the main character in this movie has become a wonderful actor and has been active in various films . I never imagined the boy's growth . I , too , who was a prime age , got old . The dream of the Japanese Empire was effulgent for a moment and burned out . Japan lost everything in the war ,and only the ruins remained . Japan has resurrected like a phoenix . It feel like a dream of dream . From Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun 🎑🇯🇵🎌
Quando assisti esse filme em seu lançamento, na sala de cinema em SP, disse para minha esposa que aquele menino era um talento incrível e que certamente o mundo ouviria falar muito dele. E o menino tornou-se Christian Bale.
lads I watched this as a child always loved this film I didn't no what it meant until I was older 😭but I love this soundtrack and film still beautiful just beautiful

FUCKING HATE THIS SHIT. Awesome soundtrack, from a long forgotten era. Now we have utter turds for movies and crap soundtracks. You have to go backwards to go forwards it would seem, hence why we have this. Long live UA-cam :)
I used to like the film but the relationship between Malkovich and Bale was creepy--not surprising given Spielberg's numerous visits to Epstein Island.

Whoa, Hans Zimmer ripped off "The Plane" in the Lion king (though that sounded a lot like "The Mission", oh never mind)
wow amazing
The beginning and end of every war are the most dangerous of times, in between it all gravy.

Magnolia or marvel, the adult ideas we would like to see.
